I need help locating where I can get a 12v feed that is only hot when the ignition is on.

Not sure about your car but my 12v lighter sockets are only hot with the ignition on.

I used a coat hangar to feed a wire from the 12v socket in the armrest through to the boot by going under the rear carpet. Then I realised I drove an E91 and there's another 12v socket in the boot already Dohh!!!

That's a good idea.

I would prefer it be somewhere in the engine bay or trunk though.

The only way is to take it from the cigarette lighter to the trunk. Its super easy. Took me 10 min.

I tapped into the homelink fuse, it's unused in my car anyways since I don't have homelink.
