I want a quaife LSD!

Can anyone tell me where I can find the differential on my lci e92 335d?
I would like to see whether mine is welded or bolted onto the car.
Pictures would be helpful!
Thanks

It's under the car, halfway between the rear wheels.

Can't see it being welded in, must be bolted to enable removal if faulty.

The 335's use both welded and bolted diffs, Tony AKA E92fan will be able to help.

It's not a question of whether the differential itself is welded into the car (it's not by the way) but rather a question of whether the crown wheel at the input to the differential is bolted on or welded.

LCI 335d have a welded-style crown wheel.

Thats what i meant chaps sorry.
Tony, are you certain that all LCI 335d's are welded to the crown wheel as its an £800 question?

BTW is it worth it? Ive read your review Tony (Thanks), but just want to know if it really makes that much difference over the standard car. I dont think its something I will get done until I get them awful RFTs off my car in about 10,000 miles anyway.

I agree.
I was lucky to have a cheap manual, with a bolt up

Nice mod for the road if you are a press-on driver.
If you live on the motorway it's pointless.

At Castle Combe last week it was awesome, but GET THE BIGGER REAR ARB on there at the same time.
Saves on labour, and the ARBs make big difference to the balance of the car (more neutral).

My 330d LCI is also welded

I think all LCI diesel are welded. This makes it really hard coz I can find a trusty mechanic near me that will be able to do install it properly.

This is all based on second hand info but if I was doing a diff install it would have to be at Birds regardless of how far I had to travel for it.

I have only ever heard good things about them.

I was at Birds yesterday and i can vouch for their professionalism and workmanship - great bunch of guys AND Pinder makes a mean cup of tea (shame about lack of dunky biscuits though!)
The LSD is next on my list!!

Get the subframe bushes done at the same time as the LSD

As long as they use OE approved parts, you can use who the flip you like.

+1

Birds use only BMW OEM parts for servicing, so your warranty remains intact

Dear All, my 335i (bolted diff) is going up to Birds on Monday week for their Dynamics package (B3 suspension, Quaife, ARB and subframe bushes).

Can't wait! But I will post up a review once it has been done - not so much about Birds, who I'm sure will be fine, but more a "this is how it feels for an ordinary driver who wants his car to be fully sorted but wouldn't go near a race track" type of review.

Mike.

How much are all these extras going to set me back?
The LSD is bad enough at £1800!!!!
What differences will the subframe bushes and ARB unit make to the car?
Sorry but my knowledge on what all these things do is quite limited compared to you guys!
Its very unlikely it will go anywhere near a racing track as its a car that we use for business driving and if I was to smash it up......yeah you get the picture!
Will they be a huge improvement on stock?
Obviously the car doesnt have an LSD so its a no brainer!

Get Tony to take you for a drive.... you'll see the effect of the LSD (and a heap of other stuff) at 1st hand.
