Quaife lsd diy

Hi,

im seriously considering undertaking this, has anyone any experience or tips?

my e91 335i is sat on 19" 230's with bilstein shocks and eibach springs, bms dual cone intake, active autowerk fmic, forge bov's and jb4. So naturally the next step is dp's and an lsd.

i plan to do it with some mates, one of which is a former volvo master tech with his own 2 post at home.

part of me thinks that we are all either engineers or mechs, so what could go wrong, right?! haha

Is your crownwheel bolted or welded?

Setting up the diff is one for the pro's in my opinion. Fitting the pumpkin to the axle is easy enough tho...

Yeah i'm in the US.. We have a few distributors here... Are you changing out the entire pumpkin? or just changing the internals?

I'll likely end up purchasing a fully built unit so I can just have it installed.

What's the birds price for a full exchange unit, ready built?

Obviously there'll be a deposit refund for your old unit, but its a lot easier to fit than stripping the unit yourself.

Or while you're at it change out the jelly rear subframe bushes and fit a new rear anti roll bar Essential IMO.

+1 on the bushes and ARBs. Definitely need the right tools as the bushes can be tricky to push out and refit.

Accordingly to their web site it's £1411 + VAT for an exchange diff. The £830 for the diff is also + VAT, so don't forget that.

Not many people get to play with diffs and gearboxes.
It's not rocket science, but I wouldn't attempt it with zero experience.
Make use of that lift, not a job to think about on the garage floor....
Get new flange bolts, seals and bearings all oem. Buy the right oil, do NOT use LSD fluid, normal diff fluid is fine, ask Quaiffe.
And make sure you know how to set the backlash correctly.

There is a special tool to clamp the prop input collar and undo the nut
Otherwise, its regular mechanics.

Like I said, its not a job for the axle stand brigade.
Very few people have a decent press.
