Turbo replacement
Does anyone know how much it costs to replace both turbos? I can't stand this dreaded wastegate rattle anymore. My car is out of warranty. I would like to go with OEM but I'm not sure if I should take it to the dealership....
Thanks in advance! |

$795 for each turbo from Tischer. $100 for your returned core. About $2000 for the installation I think (someone local in Vancouver did it, and there's a thread but you'll have to search).
No guarantee that new turbos will fix the wastegate rattle though. A lot of people in the US had the dealer replace turbos but the rattle came back soon afterwards. It's just a problem with the design, not because of wear and tear. |

I recently had my turbos replaced under warranty. My SA estimated $6000-$7000 if I had to pay for it myself. But apparently, they charge BMW around $4000 for the warranty work. Nice way to bend over your customers
I did talk to the mechanic who was working on my car and asked if I would have the wastegate rattle again, his reply was that BMW had redesigned the turbos and I shouldn't have the problem again. If my turbos start to rattle again, and my car is off warranty, I'm going to go aftermarket and upgrade the blowers. It'll probably be cheaper... |

I had mine changed back in April. Car is a 07' and had 66k on it. So far it's been 10,000 km with the new turbos and no wastegate rattle.
Although sometimes I do hear something but I think it's the exhaust or muffler. Definitive not the wastegate infamous sound. |

I didn't get the rattle until around 60K. Hopefully the new turbos last a bit longer.

If you're out of warranty go aftermarket.

Anyone have a ballpark idea of the cost of aftermarket turbos and install? Gta prices.

I just got a quote from nixon in burnaby and they want $4800 for parts and labor with 2 year warranty. What do you guys think? My car has 120k now and I don't think it's worth it...

$4800 is not bad. I plan on keeping my car for a long time and I anticipate that the turbos will fail at some point in the future, so I will probably go to Nixon.
