The remote door unlocking facility is cool.

I might try it just to impress friends at the pub!!!

Make a call and as if by magic - the car opens!!!

Have not signed up for this particular feature yet, but I might do.

I think that they can also start and stop the engine.

Sadly, they have just ported my account rather than given me a new one. I had hoped I would get a new 3 year trial, but it looks as if I will have to pay for this from Sept next year.

Registration is via internet now:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/connected...ml?siteID=1312

The online terms and conditions indicate that a 3 year free trial is available for all new accounts. So if you have idrive, I strongly advise you to go for it.
eh? So even if you purchase a new car, you don't get a new account? I would argue tooth and nail over this Si. I would be demanding a full 3yr account with a new vehicle.

I'm really not sure how this will work. I applied for a new account, but they have basically added my new car to the old account.

I'll have to give them a ring.

The more I think about it the more non-sensical it is! Say you traded in a car with only a couple of months left on it? Surely the £120 a year would not kick in almost straight away? Can't be right mate. If not get them to open an account in the missus name instead, lol!

I have just opened my account on a demo car 3 month old and mine does not expire until Oct 25th 2012 and they said it had been set up with a different name originally.............

That suggests that they have given you the balance of the original owners free trial.

Confusing. Because that suggests that the account is with the car, not the customer.

The account is with the car, that's why I got the full three year on a car 2 1/2 years old because the previpus owner never bothered to open the account. My TCU has to be changed and BMW have to embed the chassis number into it before they send ot to the dealer, again pointing to the fact it is in fact to do with a particular car not a person
