alignment specifications
Hey guys, my car barely reached 10,000 miles this month and I recently had a set of kw v2s installed so I'm looking to get an alignment done.
My wheel setup is as follows: 19x8.5 +30 235/35/19 front 19x9.5 +18 265/30/19 rear Is there any specific alignment specs (toe/camber) that I should aim for? And if not, what is the recommended factory spec for an e90 335i? Any input and alignment shop recommendations around 91007 area would be appreciated. Thanks! |

I'm definitely no alignment pro, but when I had mine done after my coilovers were installed I just told them to align to spec.
They should have the correct factory alignment settings for your car and will just match everything back up to that. If you are looking for something more specific than I can't really help... |

Daily/spirited driving mainly. I have a 19x9.5 +18 in the rear with 265s and I'm not sure if I should go a little bit of neg camber

You should be looking at Specifications Min Max which are the factory spec "defaults" for the E90 (ignore Initial and Final as those pertain to this particular car). No I'm not running anything aggressive. 19x8.5 +35 235/35/19 front 19x9.5 +33 275/30/19 rear Forgive the large image. |

I'm not positive on that, but I don't believe there are different specs for sport/non-sport spring cars.

There are indeed different specs. E90/91/92/93 all have their own specs, non-sport/sport/performance suspension, and 17-18-19" wheels.
At least that's how our Hunter Machine gives us the break-down... |

19x8.5 +30 front 235/35/19 fk452 19x9.5 +18 rear 2655/30/19 fk452 Not sure if I need some neg camber with this. KW v2 coilovers is set to pretty low. dampening is 12 clicks from the firmest on the front and 10 clicks from the firmest on the rear. Stock car was a 2008 e90 335i with sport package. The car is used as a daily driver with occasional spirited driving. |

There is no real need for toe upfront if it is daily driving it will just affect the tire life as the negative camber and the toe will cause the front tires to drag thus the cause of inner tire wear. Adding toe upfront is more suited for enhanced grip or better turning capabilities for aggressive street driving or track usage.

See picture for alignment specifications.
Think for all my future alignments I can go to a cheapo place and give them these specs - and maybe ask them if I can sit in the drivers seat while they do? |

Toe doesn't add or "enhance" grip. Toe-in adds directional stability and toe-out adds steering response. CAMBER adds grip. Toe-in allows the car to track straighter because the frictional forces will provide inward pressure to stabilize the front end. Toe-in is very important on MacStrut front end like BMW has, because as the front end compresses upon braking, the camber increases and so does toe-out. The end result is if you brake at or near threshold (say, in an emergency situation) the resulting toe-out will cause front end instability and force the car to follow the crown of the road. And with any amount of negative camber, slight toe-in will result in a more even wear because the negative camber will wear the inside of the tire, and the toe-in will wear the outside of the tire. Word of advice to the OP. Just ask the alignment shop to align it to "factory specs." What BMW provides straight from the factory is probably the best all around compromise for performance, comfort, and tire longevity as you're ever going to get, regardless of what your suspension set-up is (even on coil-overs). I'm not one to sing the praises of BMW engineers as "they can't do no wrong because they're german" but they have managed to find a pretty darn good setting for a street driven vehicle and still retain a little bit of performance oriented suspension setup.

Hopefully one of these is it. I don't see anything specific to x-drive in alignment documentation. Only specific things are for suspension types. There is a rough road suspension type if anyone needs those specs, just lmk.
EDIT: I do see something for the AWD's, and something specific to e92,93 sport. Just added those.

But honestly, now it just feels normal and good. It goes straight fine, but I do wonder around a little within the lane. Not sure what I had before, but it use to be very solid going straight. I'm not really an expert at giving feedback for how a car drives, but I think I have more of a tendency to oversteer now. I did Front 0 toe -1.7 camber per side Rear 1/16" toe in per side -1.8 camber per side Thrust angle= 0.00 Everything else to OEM spec's Next alignment I will change it to slight toe-in on front and -2.0 camber per side on the rear. |
