was looking at getting my front headlights and rear taillights smoked...was wondering how much it effects the light coming from the car especially at night...anyone done this and know how it is? thoughts?

Thumbs down

I wouldn't do it. I smoked the headlights on my STi and it affected the light output A LOT more than I expected. I used the pre cut Lamin-X ones and ripped them off less than a week after putting them on (which was 4 hours of hell with a heat gun and squeege).
They did look good though.

The reason that smoking headlights is a violation of FMVSS 108 is because it affects the light output. Don't do it.

Take it from someone who Gunsmoked their heads and tails

Don't. Unless you plan on driving exclusively during the day.

Not a huge fan of the smoked headlight look unless the car is super aggressive.

For reference this is how my car looked with them on

Looked pretty sick, but driving at night sucked. Off they came.

However, the taillight smokes stayed. LaminX Gunsmoke

That I would DEFINITELY do on an E92.

I have done most of my vehicles with a light smoke instead of dark. No problems with lighting but all have been HID.

Rim and taillight tint info-

The tails and heads were done by Strictly Window Tint in Garfield NJ. The guy's name is Ronnie I think. Style 199 rims, 19 inch, in black. They're low profile, so you GOTTA watch the potholes man. One of many reasons NOT to smoke the headlights. Be sure to get a BMW CCA membership, with it you get 20% off!
