Well my recent service with BMW was £147 and that included MOT (and the usual courtesy wash and valet) I had a go at BMW for having a LG television in the customer waiting area - budget tv not really in keeping with their image. (I asked why they didn't have a proper Sony/Samsung/Panasonic etc - that went down like a lead balloon)

Exhaust emissions from my car were minimal according to the print out.

After the recent repair by the bumper clinic (£140) the car is now looking mint again.

Still paying 72p per liter for LPG and the car has been given a clean bill of health by BMW. That's 30,000 miles now on LPG

You should've asked why they didn't have a Loewe television, that would probably have completely stumped them

Still have my lpg bmw e90, still saving a fortune on fuel costs. LPG currently at 62.9 p per litre. The car is always main dealer serviced and MOT'd.

Having covered nearly 50,000 miles on LPG and saving at least £800 per 10,000 miles (taking into account conversion costs, LPG servicing and petrol purchase each year). Total net saving = £4000, Maybe that will shut up some of the smart alec comments that were rife in this thread.

How does it compare to a diesel costs wise? Can't imagine being able to cope with a 318 for any extended period of time no matter how cheap the fuel was.

I had an impreza on LPG and it was great. Fair play for you in your 318.

There are so few people who actually know about LPG that they keep away from it. I was forever getting comments about it blowing up or you'll run out of fuel as no where sells it.

My impreza died when it was rear ended on the motorway, The tank was completely fine and reacted just as it should by breaking away from it's mountings (rather than being crushed) and the solenoids sealing everything off. The fire brigade turned up and nearly shit a brick when they opened the boot and a gas cylinder was in there.

AWebster, my 318i on LPG gets a cost equivalent of around 75mpg. Now I'm guessing a 320D gets around 55mpg or 60mpg if your lucky, so at least 20% more cost effective than diesel.

In addition, a 320D gets around 175bhp whilst my 318i is at 129bhp (maybe more like 125bhp with lpg) Personally I'd rather forgoe the power and have more money to pour into my property and creature comforts, but then its horses for courses. (More bhp for me also means higher risk with the speed cameras and police)

I also think diesel can easily be justified for a tax hike - particularly with emerging evidence of its small particulate emissions being linked to asthma and cancer. And with the multitude of owners with diesel the government can raises tax on it slightly and still make a fortune.

Diesel has had its day - so too has petrol and probably lpg, I suspect we are in the last decade or so of fossil fuelled cars. But dirty diesel should be the first to go - with the exception of haulage/rail
