iDrive HD Radio (Current Song/Artist)

I can't figure out how to get the system to always show the current song and artist. When I had a non-iDrive loaner, every single song was displayed on the radio.

Any ideas how to make this happen with iDrive? For Satellite, it works fine. Just not HD.

Have you tried using Split Screen Entertainment Details? In theory, it should be the same RDS regardless of the window that you are in. However, I've found that the split screen will give me information that the main window does not.

I have noticed that it is very sluggish showing the next songs title. (Split screen or Entertainment Details in main screen)

When the song changes to the next song, the old song is displayed till like 1/2 way into the next song. If i simply switch the station, and then go back to the station I was listening to....it updates.

When I shut off HD, the RDS seems to work much better, and it seems to display even more information.

I am TOTALLY not a fan of this new i-drive. Other than the nicer resolution, I think the prior one was MUCH BETTER.

P.S. Has anyone figured out how to dial names via bluetooth without having to use like 5 steps?

On the last I-Drive, you could simply push the button, and say "Call Wife Mobile" It would automatically select the RIGHT entry, and you wouldnt have to say "Phonebook", "wife", "Entry 2" and be really annoyed the whole time because the old system was better....

Sorry to complain. Just would like to know if anyone else is frustrated....

The procedure for dialing numbers in bluetooth is ridculously clunky. And, to make matters worse, the new manual lists the OLD procedures. So, it took me weeks to figure out what to do.

The problems you guys are describing with HD radio RDS may be intrinsic to HD rather than an IDRIVE issue.

Yea - i dont like the new bluetooth voice commands. I tried so many ways of trying to dial a contact, didnt work.

For HD Radio, when i first turn on the car, the correct song name displays. When the song changes on the radio, the name doesnt update until AFTER the song is over. So whatever song is playing, the song information that is displayed on teh screen is of the previous song that played on the radio. This happens for any station that i tune to. Also, if i change the station, then go back, it still DOES NOT update until the next song comes on. If i turn the car off, and then turn it back on (during the same song) it updates. This leads me to believe there is a bug in the software for the HD radio function. I was going to tell the dealer soon.

Has anyone found a fix for the slow song info update yet for the HD radio? It does this on my new car and is driving me nuts!

Bluetooth isn't that bad on the new idrive. You can make a call with 4 commands from any screen.

"Choose Name" > "Lastname, Firstname" > "Yes" > "Call"

Slow HD Radio update

Any news on this? I'm wondering if the latest update will help. I just picked up a 2009 328i, it's exactly 1 year old now.

Slow HD Update

I've brought this in for a software update, though I'm having some problems there... But I did see this work in a new M3 with nav, so I have some hope. Hopefully their systems aren't too different.

Vindicated!

Got the update, it worked! HD now updates like it should. It took a little convincing and a PuMA case, but all is well.

But it was easier in pre-LCI iDrive. From almost any menu:
"Call" "[Name]" or
"Dial Number"

Maybe ISTA/P 2.38 fixed that.
