I need some help with the Bavarian Technic

I can't find the discussion/video where people talked about how to properly use the cable. It takes me 30-40 minutes to run a short test and then, if I want to clear all the codes, another 30-40 minutes to run the same short test and do whatever needs to be done.

In this discussion I remember, people were saying the short test only takes a few minutes. Like two or three.. What am I doing wrong?

I connect the cable to the computer via USB with the ignition off. I turn the ignition on, start up the Bavarian Technic program and proceed as usual. It connects - and I can do whatever...

Is there a different order? What the heck am I doing wrong? I don't think it's normal to be spending an hour and a half doing this...

there's two different tests. the short test all modules is on the left side, and the one right next to it on the right says clear faults in all modules. that is the one that takes like 30 minutes. are you sure when your doing the short test your clicking the right test button?

how old is your laptop? A newer laptop will speed it up. It takes me a few minutes to run a scan.

yeah but if its taking 30 minutes that sounds like the clear faults in all modules scan not the short test all modules scan

I tried both.. The short test took 35 or 40 minutes and then I went to clear everything and that was doing the same thing... The short test always takes this long for me - so I must be doing something wrong...

The laptop is brand new.. It's a MacBook Pro running Windows XP in Parallels.

It takes the same amount of time for me to run both tests for some reason..

did u get the latest software from BT?

i reccommend going to their website and either calling them or emailing them. i had an issue and they game me a very thorough email response.

Here inlies your answer! USB communications over emulated USB ports are VERY VERY SLOW and often lack the full features.

Check to make sure you have loaded the proper add-ons for USB 2.0 support in Parallels.

If that fails, you may need to do a proper dual boot install instead of virtualising XP.

As a side note:

I have various diagnostics and coding software for BMW and VW/AUDI. I run Linux and Virtual Box with Win7 on it. Some programs do not run well from virtualized OS, some run slow, some won't communicate properly over USB port.

This is the only reason why I still have a dual boot laptop.

BT Tool runs fast for me from Virtual Box and Win 7. Give it a try instead of Parralels!

+1 on what vasillalov is saying. i was running a macbook w/windows xp on parallels. it was stable, but honestly, it was WAY slow compared to this $250 netbook that I bought. get a netbook and it will be much easier for you! i am running windows 7 and i just made sure i have all the updates and drivers that bav technic has!

I run Windows 7 in boot camp for this purpose, works perfectly.

As for parallels, I would also like to recommend switching virtualization software, my recommendation is VMware Fusion however...

I run Linux Mint 10, which is a fork off Ubuntu 10.10. It's just a cleaner and easier on the eyes.
