This probably belongs in the n54 engine section but I wanted to start here with the knowledgable XI folks to see if anyone else has the same issue...

When I drive my friends 335i the clutch pedal feels a lot stiffer and engages closer to the clutch stop whereas my 335xi pedal feels mushy throughout and engages the clutch much higher. I can shift without grinding gears pressing about half way even with a thicker clutch stop.

Is this a pressure plate issue or an easy adjustable clutch pedal issue or another I vs XI nuance?

We both have removed CDVs and clutch stops, but he removed all the clutch pedal springs - that shouldn't make THAT much of a difference, right? Especially for the engagement range.

Any insight please!

You're clutch disk is worn.

As the disk wears, it gets thinner, which moves the pick-up point higher because the pressure plate doesn't need to move as far to disengage from the disk.

If the pedal is mushy I would try bleeding it.

But the clutch disk isn't slipping yet - am I to expect slipping soon?

That's difficult to say. Slippage is the final stage of clutch wear, so it's coming, but there's no way to accurately tell when that might happen without taking the clutch disk out and examining it, at which point you might as well replace it.

I would just start saving for a new clutch and continue to drive it as normal.
