Have a question about Auto trans maintenance

First and foremost, let me explain that I am 100% for doing preventative maintenance on automatic transmissions, no matter the brand as there is no such thing as a life time fluid.

Now that thats out of the way, I have a question about the way my car shifts from 5th to 6th when at high speed.

I should note that I have had the transmission fluid changed every 50,000 miles with the original Lifeguard fluid, and had the entire sump (and integrated filter) replaced at 100,000 miles.

I am currently at 119,000 miles and have noticed that the car shifts VERY sluggishly sometimes when going from 5th to 6th when at a high speed. It used to always be a sharp shift (due to the trans "learning" the aggressive driving behavior and increasing the line pressure to shift harder)

I know with certainty that the automatic transmissions have a problem with the mechatronic sealing sleeve leaking every 2-3 years, and sometimes shorter timeframe if the car goes from sitting for extended periods, to being used frequently.

SO, my question is: Is there any way to measure the amount of fluid in the transmission? I don't actually know if there is a sensor that checks fluid level in the transmission and have an odd feeling that the fluid level being low is what is causing my issue.

btw, I'm asking because my car was sitting for the first 6 months of 2014, and went back to being my daily for the rest of the year

I heard of this a while back, deep in a thread.
There is a tranny solenoid kit that resolved this issue.

Just don't have a link for you....and I am just guessing a starting point.
This is just on the shifting problem.

As for oil level sensor. ...not sure, always wanted to know myself.

There are a few threads linked in there about pretty much the same thing.

Wow, both very very useful reads guys. Thank you!

Seems odd that my trans only does the sloppy shift from 5th to 6th and only at high speed. Literally everything else is fine, upshifts in normal driving in any other gears, downshifts, engine braking etc.

I may have to dig deeper

There is a DIY on how to flush the trans fluid out of the torque converter.

You need to unhook both lines to the trans cooler.

You will need a fluid filler, one that is preferably powered by compressed air. Mitivac makes one; it's about $130-150.00 on Amazon. Mitivac makes an awesome break vac for about $175.00 (FYI).

At any rate, you attach one of the lines to the fluid filler and make sure you have a pan where the trans oil coming out of the torque converter can empty into.

You simply push fluid into one line and let the old fluid run out. When you have a clear and steady, red stream of fluid, your done. Simply attach the lines back up to the trans cooler.
