Full of people who had just picked up BRAND NEW cars with new 57 plates...

This year, not one has posted... a 59 plater (sept 1st)

Just shows the credit crunch has affected everyone... Especially new cars sales.

Think Paul (M3fast) has said that a BMW dealer in his area has had a very fruitful 1 September. I know of an Audi dealer up here that has as well but overall it's pretty obvious things are a bit quiet.

Time to keep an eye out whilst driving see what's new and what marques.

Once bitten twice shy Carl, I picked my 57 up in Oct 07.

Residuals on BMW's along with other perceived top marques are way down on what they were in 2007, there are of course exceptions, but few and far between.

It's time to rethink the game, s/hand and excellent condition cars are the way to go, let some other mug take the inevitable hit as their brand new car rolls off the forecourt leaving any residual in their tyretracks!

My Dad's just bought a 59 plate CRV. Bought it at the weekend, will arrive this month, probably already built and in a depot somewhere in the UK. He's the only one I know though.

I remember it well, how the years have flown by.

The local dealer was stacked full of 59 plate cars at the weekend all waiting for their new owners, but noticably pretty much all of them were 1's and 3's.

Thats just what i did, got a 6month old 318d specd up to nearly 30k for just under 21K best thing is that it was the stealer you paid the depreciation! think someone had it as a company car 4500k on the clock.

Not seen one yet - Cornwall doesn't get new plate cars until five years later.

I've flitted for years between new and used cars -both have advantages.
My 335d would have been £38k new. 2.5 years old and 16k miles (barely run in) for £21k seemed too good an opportunity to miss, especially as I was struggling to find low miler 330ds for that money. And the spec was almost exactly what I would have chosen (I would have added xenons and sports seats but that's it) too. In fact I would have gone for a more "mainstream" leather colour and missed out on the Terra - which rocks.

Maybe more are realising the savings that can be made not buying new? Maybe people are hanging on a bit until the economy starts to recover (if it ever does)?

Reviews of the A5 are lukewarm though. I agree they look great but I don't agree with Audi's lack of ability to make their cars handle properly.

what im amazed about is that a 320d is quicker and more powerful than an A5 1.8T

Also the same HP and 0-60 as the 2.0T..

We all know Audi's 0-60's are rather optimistic also.

Never driven an A5 but have driven a S5 and handling and grip are spot on (ok is 4WD) and plenty of torque out of that smooth growly V8. Interior build quality is very good have to say. Am awaiting with interest the RS5 tbh.

Every Audi I've driven has had lifeless steering, a heavy front end, weigh far too much, have grabby brakes and just felt dull - they do acceleration well (in pokey form) but don't do it for me otherwise. Just expensive Skodas now.
Yes they have nice interiors but is that enough to buy a car?

Yet they sell in 1000s and hold their value well.

I used to love Audis (Dad had three uR Quattros, the last one a full Treser version) but am not impressed with the newer ones - R8 excepted.

Ive driven loads of hot audi's, they handle well.
but are very numb, i didnt feel connected like i do in the 3er!

Agree about dull steering but then the M3 also has when compared to my Porsche.

S5 imo is a car that is more than capable of rapid cross country driving with exceptional grip for a car of it's size, more than enough poke and was involving to drive. I really liked it but haven't driven other Audi models just this one oh and the TT which was nice but no Cayman S imo. Bear in mind I've owned two BMW's and driven all 6 that my father owned over the years.

Expensive Skodas don't think so lol maybe Porsches will be soon also.
