Ride still sh*t even with Non runflats
it fricking well is.... Seriously pissed off now. (I have had non runflats fitted since feb so your aware)
Its great on half decent ish roads, but even at 30mph drive down a drain and the f**king thing feels like its going to rip a wheel off. My astra van can go through em double the speed and you dont feel it. Im fed up of constantly trying to avoid any part of the road which has a slight dip or bump which will crash about if you drive through it, then feel like ive failed cuz every so often i drive through one. ANY OTHER f**king car can do it, just not sport suspension 3 series Dont get me wrong the car handles beautifully and is fantastic on german roads and good on UK decent roads, but shit in towns where there are drains, man hole covers and cracks in the road. It was worse with runflats but its still bad.... Seriously pissed off.

The joy of 19" wheels with 30/35 sidewalls!!
I agree with you - BMW suspension has been overly harsh for years now - my old Cayman S had 19" wheels and rode much better |

TBH every car I've been in has the same problem. Whatever tyre you buy I reckon you wont be able to eliminate the solidity of rubber.
Maybe you shouldnt be blaming the tyres but more the shitty maintenance of our roads! But the E92 sport is so much more composed, less crashy than an E46. Well Im guessing thats down to the springs. If you dont want to feel man holes and potholes you should look at fiddling with dampers and springs, right?

Mate, your right it is our crappy roads. They are F****** DIRE.
How contractors get away with leaving manhole covers 3 inches below the road surface is a complete joke.

It's been the case for ages with the 3 series - especially the sport models.
Most cheap family cars sale over bumps that would give you a serious wallop in either an e46 or e90. I just think it's the price you pay for the handling. |

I'm on h&rs on non run flat eagle F1s and I'm actually pretty happy with the ride. In fact it's leagues ahead of my old e46 m3 and even better than my Mums 2002 honda civic. Far better than any recent audi I've been in too. Not sure if the BBS wheel weight helps too.

Im not saying the ride is awful generally. But the way the car behaves over bud ruts and the like is terrible.

It sometimes does. Not enough to worry me though,
Im more annoyed with drains and lowered sections of road on a normal road. The car crashes and bangs down them. You end up driving round them as if they were chicanes.

The roads are rubbish and the cold weather does not help. 3 degrees this morning and 3 degree tonight. I think the suspension feels a fair bit firmer in this cold weather and I am with Carl and will try and avoid drains at the mo.
I agree the E36 had a much better ride although in reality cornered no where near as flat as the E92. One of the big changes with modern cars is the torsional rigidity and when combined with low / ultra low profile tyres the ride is always going to be firm on UK roads. Mine is on 18s and runflats and 95% of the time it is fine. But when you hit a bad drain you feel it far more than a normal car.

I agree our roads are rubbish - potholes go unfixed for months, and I bent two wheels last year on one.
However, my wife has been borrowing my E92 for the last few days, and she just told me tonight that she thinks the ride is so smooth ... compared to her MINI Cooper S (which is on Dunlop runflats).

Carlos why dont you consider upgrading to a more compliant tyre with a taller sidewall like say 80 aspect 17 inch or even 16 inch.
when you've done that you should be able to run over a house brick and not notice it! handling might be a little $hit around corners etc.

With my truck it's somewhat appropriate to drive down a drain because my truck looks like sh*t.
I agree with Carlos that dodging the drains is like driving around chicanes. There's a section of road I have to drive on every day to work that was resurfaced in September. I've never seen a more fouled up mess of a top surface as that section. It's worse than it was when the stupid contractor started! Worse part is, you can't avoid it by driving around it.
