HELP> orange coolant... wtf

i just drained my coolant to perform a change.

it is ORANGE. shouldnt it be BLUE?

the replacement stuff i have is OEM blue.

so is it orange due to contamination, i.e. rust, it doesnt have sediment, it looks like beer

if i now add the blue am i going to gum up the the insides?

is it safe to add the blue or what

alright so i wasnt about to leave the car dry for an answer, so i went ahead and refilled with water, ran the 12 mins water pump vent procedure. drained again. refilled with water, ran the 12 min water pump vent a second time, drained a second time.

this got all the orange shit out and then i refilled with the 50/50 blue/distilled. 12 min vent.

i will post back if my car blows up.

on a side not i also mixed a cup of the orange shit that was in there with a cup of bmw blue to see if it gels, it didnt.

Coolant come in other colors, i've seen orange, as in orangejuice like but clear. Never seen orange beer color, usually it's brighter then that.

I thought orange was long life? Was the car used? I'm sure if someone put orange in after green or yellow (without properly flushing) it could come out lighter.

you are correct. as far as i know, the coolant in the 330 is lifetime fluid. (thats what my tech at bmw told me)

bought the car as a CPO at 22k miles

has been maintained by the book, until now at 100k where i am starting my own program, changing fluids that are considered lifetime etc.

it was an orange color clear, not a bright flourescent like how the green looks, just a watered down orange that you could see thru. it did have coolant in it cause it tasted like it, lol. almost like water with a orange tint to it.

Orange is not BMW OEM, which is blue. At some point it was replaced. Maybe (hopefully) they used Zerex G-05, which is also phosphate free, and has an orangeish-yellowish color.
