Oh! Totally forgot to mention the Pontiac G8 GXP. If you could find one... I was looking at them when I got my M3. Unfortunately at that time they only had the G8, and you can't get the regular G8 with a manual.

And of course once I placed my order for Vicky, Pontiac announces the G8 GXP (with manual...) and then soon after that the brand was dying...

Screw the M3...go check out the M4 coupe. It tics all my boxes. Rumored to be lighter and have increased torque by 100...no cosmetic mods will be needed in that it has everything. Unfortunately, Price will be stoopid

Stu, that is an option, but they are so rare that they are holding their value. And, finding one that is for sale...

I love the look of the new Mustang and the feeling of the 5.0. I'm happy with my decision and will be happy to make it look and sound badass. Should pick up the car, Monday or Tuesday. Can't decide if I'll do the coilovers, wheels, and cosmetic mods now or after I get back from Italy Round 2.

For everyone wondering:

I blew my motor at the track because the oil pump failed at high RPM, so obviously it overheated. I said "oh well, time to rebuild and make her last this time." So I drop it off at the shop, because they clearly sponsor the car and claim they give me discounted labor. Anyway, I tell them not to do anything to the car until I have a quote, because it seemed like their prices had been going up on me. I go by the shop a few days later and the engine is broken down and they give me a quote of $8000 ($6000 labor and $2000 parts). I told them that sounded pretty high and that other shops had quoted me far less, keep in mind, I was being very polite at this point and had absolutely no issues with them. I told them that I thought it would be best for me if I just took it home and did it myself (in the past the promoted this behavior). Well, when I come back to get it the following week, it was extremely tense in the shop and everyone was being very rude to my dad and myself. I walked passed the shop owner a number of times and he just turned his back to me and didn't even say hi. Then, while I was loading my parts into the box, another employee had the audacity to tell me that some of my parts were not mine and shortly thereafter and tech came by and told me that they were indeed my parts. The shop owner started talking and mocking me at this point, so I loaded my stuff up and left without paying for their unauthorized work. I got home and realized the shop owner had been emailing me sarcastic messages while I was there at the shop, but I didn't respond. They then deleted the pictures of my car off their facebook and we have parted ways.

...$450 is steep, I'd be missing a day of pay as well, and I'd be pretty spent by the end third day.

This is what i'd do. 28k MSRP brand new. The track pack brakes are meh (it's the factor PFC pads that come on them that are nice) and everything else could be had for less in the aftermarket. The only worthy thing on the track pack GT's and 302's that you'll miss out on are those factory Recaro's (awesome seats) and that torsen diff. The torsen diff paired with optimized suspension for it completely transforms that car

R1 concept rotors normally do a deal with pads, I got a few friends that get Brembo or StopTech pads with them which are pretty good.

I see R1 have regular and Premium rotors is there a BIG difference? I've read that a lot of the guys are really happy with the Akebono brake pads. Thoughts? Todd....Grant??? Feel free to jump in

Pfc z rated pads are the only way to go. I've used stoptech streets, HT-10, pfc z rated, and HP+. Pfc z rated are the best pads for the street IMO.

Akebono makes a pad that doesn't dust, which makes wheel cleaning easy. It's also a German made pad.

When I worked in a Audi/Porsche shop the premium pad we used on all the Audi's when requested was Akebono. They are great, but on the expensive side

Don't use the PFC Z Rated pad unless you plan on getting lots of temperature in them. There are street only pads that work better for street only use.

They stop fine at low temp for me. There are pads with lower operating temperatures though.

ok thats cool. I'm just looking for some good set up. Nothing extemely expensive, but nothing cheap either. Keep in mind I don't drive the car often, and I don't track the car any.

With street pads I would just look at tire rack reviews and special deals. More people are giving professional feedback there than anywhere else and they frequently have specials.
Akebono pads seem to work great from my experience, and the no dust pads do work (albeit not perfectly).

I wouldn't buy a dual purpose street/track/performance pad though. The advantage would be a wider operational temperature range and this includes temp's your street car won't ever see. The disadvantage would be the material that allows that increased range isn't fully optimized for the set temperatures you'll be generating on a daily basis. These higher temperature pads have to be.. "brought up, to bite".. where as a true street pads efficiency range is reached instantly.
