E90 320d noise

My 2005 320d SE auto seems to be quite loud, particularly when under load. It seems almost like a 'boomy' kind of noise when accelerating and was just wondering if these models were all like this? The car has done only 20,000 miles, and has RFT's on the front and non RFT's on the back. When you rev the car when stationary it sounds like any other diesel I have owned, but when out on the road it seems to sound louder. It kind of sounds like a blowing exhaust a little, but I know that this is not the cause. Can anyone offer any advice?
