My Tint installer warrants the Pinnacle F1 tint for life. They won't install the tint unless you have double sided felt pads on both sides of the glass in the door. 3 series don't come with double sided...just single. So in order for them to warrant it I had to pay for the second felt pad side. I have had no issues at all. Of course I have only rolled down the windows like twice...I will keep a look out for it.

I'm curious about how this would be done as well. I've tried to squeeze my fingers down in the window slot just to clean the inner weather seal, and even my skinny hands don't fit. Is there an easy way to pop out that weather strip without having to remove the door panel, as Chowbow mentioned?

He now has the Tint Protector kit BTW.

Cutting off a weather strip that is designed to keep out water and dirt is a bad idea. Just get the felt and be done.

Second, you do need to pop open the door panel to install the felt. It's not hard at all. Even someone with no mechanical skills could do it. It won't cause any rattles. It's easy.
How is the INNER seal keeping water out? It's always dry in there. It's not like you're filling the cabin up with water. The outer seals keep all the moisture out. We're talking about an inner seal, the one that is on the same side as the tint. I'd love to hear how that keeps water out.

Honestly I'm really not sure. He did show me after he removed it though and showed me what he cut off. I didn't see exactly how he pulled it off. He definitely didn't take the door panel off as he went around and just pulled on it and removed the whole strip and cut off a section of it, and re-installed. Bay Area people I can give the reference to you on where to get it done.

I have no idea how the water and wind noise gets in, but trust me, his car is full of wind noise now on the highway.

Hey gofast, did you have your tint done at IDS off of Broadway and C-470? I think I was one of the first E90s that they did, so I ended up being a bit of a guinea pig. When they tinted my windows, they didn't remove the inner weatherstrip or felt it, so now my tint, especially on my driver's door, looks like a rabid animal has gone berserk on it. It's absolutely awful! I've been meaning to bring it back to them to get it fixed, but wasn't sure if they could completely correct the problem.

Any help or info you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

If the biggest BMW dealer in the state is allowing this on all the cars they sell then it's good enough for me. I have no personal experience with the felts, but I've heard from more than one person that the adhesive doesn't always last and you end up with glue smears all over your windows.
I can attest that there are no wind noise issues or water getting through. Don't know what your friend did, but it's not what we had done.

Do what you want on your car. I would never cut anything off mine.

gofast

If people cheap out and use the crap felt, it will fall off. There is only one manufacture of the felt that is designed for auto use. Tint Protector. So when your buying the felt if it's not made my Tint Protector than it won't work in a car door with all the heat and humidity. Simple.

Didn't you read my post about my experience with the cheap stuff? Guess not.... it's post #57

I've had the Tint Protector felt on two of my cars for years now with ZERO problems. It works as advertised.

Agreed. I wouldn't cut anything off mine either. It is there for a reason. To make matters worse, the dealership removes the part and never replace it and in the work order, its states, remove and install door trim pannel. Falsifying a document is not a good thing, especially business or a company with a good reputation to cheat their customers.

Just stopped a whole bunch or rattles in our RX400H and the AMG yesterday with the Tint Protector moleskin. Works like a charm!

I used the left over to line my drives side door bin. Now my iphone won't slide around.

It's SUPER simple to open the door panels. You don't have to remove them per say. Just open them to be able to access the weather strip the Tint Protector felt is applied to. If you don't want tint scratches, install the kit. It's a simple install.

The 2010's don't have felt either.

Alright well i got a 2007 E92 335i for 3 years now and about 2 years with 30% tint and it has been perfect no scartches.

Got the 2010 E90 335i with the same 30% tint from the same shop for about 2 weeks now, and my drivers side window has gotten destroyed with about 5 scartches going up and down on the drivers side!!!

I tryed cleaning the inner rubber and pulling it back so it can lean off the window, but im guessing that isnt the problem?
