Im in the process of doing an E30 tune with Ken, 1 revision in and the car feels like a whole different animal. I have similar mods as you too (CP, DP, stock intercooler) however I'm RWD 6MT. curious to see how our cars compare after i am done. +100 for Ken

Also did you notice how low the oil temp stays now? Ken is a wizard. I was doing multiple pulls for data logging and the oil temp stayed around 200 the whole time woo!

You can unplug the encoder motor connector on the transfer case or pull the front drive shaft.

Is it safe to convert to RWD that way? By pulling the motor encoder?

Just an update, got the dyno scheduled for Thursday evening. I'll only be making 3 pulls as the stock intercooler is going to be heat soaked like a bitch. Results will be coming soon, as I stated my numbers will be more in line with a RWD car as I'll be disabling the transfer case to run on a RWD dyno.

Hopefully you'll have a little time between runs to let things cool down. Either way, good luck and looking forward to your results!

Just did my first log with Ken yesterday. The car felt pretty good, actually could fell the tires loose a bit of traction when starting the pull. He sent my a update with a few small changes and I should have another log for him tomorrow( I hope). A+ service man!
Log was done using the "auto" log feature. When I'm finished I'll be making a dyno apt at ESP in Sterling MA ( Only place I've used).

Are you worried about your transfer case and other xdrive stuff blowing up?

Nope because the transfer case wont be getting any power with the encoder motor unplugged. The encoder motor actuates a cam plate with two arms on it. When these arms move they open and close the clutches which actuates the sprocket that turns the front output shaft.

At the bottom you can see the encoder motor (electric motor) with a small sprocket gear on it that turns a small gear on the cam plate which has the two arms attached.

Here's a picture of the clutch drum and attached front drive sprocket.

Did some testing with just the encoder motor unplugged, it works however you cannot disable traction control which will probably be an issue as I dont want it pulling timing or applying brakes on the dyno. Fuse #26 and #50 it is.

He sent me a update that a loaded last night. He also said it looked good. The timing corrections concerned me also and I asked about them. He said to me it was ok, and what" doesnt seem quick either" mean you were in the car LOL.
