Seeking advice on 2011 335i packages, timing of CPO purchase

Hello-- I'm looking to get back into the BMW fold, this time with one under warranty (my old 1997 540i with 120k+ miles was a nightmare!). So I'm looking at CPO, and I have some questions about a few things I'm hoping some of you with more insight can help me with.

My target car is a CPO 2011 335i 6MT sedan. I would prefer to have the cold weather and sport packages, maybe the premium package too. I'd like it to have less than 45k miles and am hoping to get one sometime this year for under $30k. Reasonable?

My more specific questions:
  1. BMW CPO financing offers. Right now they're running 0.9% on 2011 CPOs, which is very attractive -- that financing is so cheap, I could use it to cover the majority of the car and leave more of my cash in investment vehicles that are generating better returns. Right now the fine print says that offer is running until Feb 28. I probably am not going to be quite ready to buy by that time; my question for you all is how often does BMW run these kinds of offers? Is it likely that we'll see 0.9% on 2011 CPOs pop up again later this year?
  2. I found this page that does a decent job of outlining what equipment is in which packages on a 2011 335i. What I can't figure out though is what packages I need to have to allow Bluetooth music streaming from my iPhone -- that is one of my favorite things about both cars we have now, that I don't have to pull my phone out of my pocket and plug it into anything. Is that feature included only in the Premium package ("BMW Assist with Bluetooth System")?
  3. Lastly, is it generally ok to find someone selling a non-CPO and ask to have it CPO'd before I buy? How does that work -- what if the car gets inspected and BMW refuses to CPO it? There's still a fee for that inspection even if BMW declines, right? If a car is not CPO'd, are there other reputable third-party warranty plans that I should look at, or should I not bother?

Thank you in advance for your input.

OP, I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I am considering buying a CPO 335i xdrive but the CPO vehicles run about $4000-$5000 more than non-CPOs.

An alternative is to buy a non-CPO car under the standard 4 year/50k miles warranty, then have it covered under the BMW EVP program (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=420104) which does not require an inspection if purchased within the original warranty. Certain dealers give discounts on the EVP program but I believe the Gold package, at 6 years, 100k miles (from original in service date) covers what the CPO covers, and should run about $3000-$3500.

This way, you're not limited to a dealer's inventory of CPOs but can get the EVP coverage if desired.

But I would like to hear other's thoughts as well.

2011 335 with premium , weather and cold weather should be well over 30 000 $. Probably close to 35 000.

In canada it would be around 40 000 with all those options.

Unless you are buying private , but you are probably going to ran into cars where the standard warranty is about to expired ...

I have found a handful of cars that mostly meet my criteria in the low $30s, so if I'm patient and thorough it looks like I'll get what I want.

My biggest question is really about the special financing deal BMW is currently offering. It's specific to 2011s. Do you think this will pop up again later in the year, or do they only do this now and any sales later in the year will likely apply to CPO 2012s?

I bought a non-CPO 2011 335 sport - auto with 19k miles back in December 2013 for $30k. I had a really hard time finding a sedan with the Fold Down Rear seats, which required the CWP. The car was at a Chevy dealer in Napa, CA and had apparently been transferred from a Seattle to SF dealership. FDR-seats were essential for me as if I am going to downsize from a 535 I need the storage space. Sure, I would have preferred a grey M-Sport, 6 speed with cold weather package but that rare bird was basically unobtainable after months of looking...hell, even finding 6-speed E90's is getting near impossible.

I really didn't bother with a CPO. Besides not being able to find any non-XI's with CWP, they were all overpriced by $3k-$5k. As long as the car is still under warranty/free maintenance period you should be okay for the first few years.

Congrats on your purchase! That's not bad for a loaded CPO M-Sport with such low miles. I'm seeing several M-Sports (non-CPO) with those or similar packages and about 30k miles listed for $32k or so. I think I could probably score one of those for around $30k if I pushed (and wait a few months, which I'm likely going to do anyway). I really want it in Montego Blue or Space Gray Metallic.

I'm still trying to figure out if Bluetooth music streaming is standard or only part of certain packages on the 2011 335i. Does anyone know for sure?

Last month I was able to buy my 2011 335i xdrive (36k miles) with almost all the options for $31k. The dealer moaned and complained it was worth $33k. If you have the money and are willing to make the deal that day they will always bend.

I'm looking at 2011 335i m-sport, auto, black saphire, nav, CWP, premium pkg, style 287 wheels, basic stereo (no tweeter by mirrors), 28Kmi, asking $31K. Thoughts? It's a consignment, probably can negotiate down a little. 9 months left on factory warranty.

I paid $33k with taxes and everything for a CPO 2011 335xi E92 loaded (minus the sound system) with like 26k miles. Asking price was $34k I believe.

Non-CPO all day with a 328i.

If you have good credit used rates are ~1.5%-2% and I would own a 328i out of warranty without a care.

Since no one has answered your question in regards to the financing, I'll take a stab. So, based on what I've seen in the market. The 0.9% financing comes into play usually once-twice per year and it's typically in the winter months around the holiday season. I took advantage of this in November of 2013. So far, I have not seen it come up yet. My dealership local here in Austin is offering 1.9% for 48, 2.9% for 60, and 3.9% for 72. I don't think this is of coincidence however. Remember, the CPO vehicles that will be on your BMW lot during the end of the calendar year are the end-of-run lease returns or cars that they've been unable to sell(for whatever reason). Lease returns for next model year will probably come around sometime in the spring and into summer. At this time, the prices they will be asking will likely be the highest(summer is the worst time to buy a vehicle). So I'd say if you're able to find a decent car in the winter, you should have a lot of success in price negotiation as well as obtaining attractive finance terms.

Hope this helped.
