17 or 18's
Hey Everyone,
Im new to BMW forums and even to owning a BMW. I just bought an 07 328xi sedan. Its pretty basic for the most part, only has the premium package and cold weather package. Im looking to make it look a little more aggressive to match my aggressive driving.. im thinking rims would be a good place to start, but not sure what a good brand is or even what size would be good for the car. I dont want huge rims that look oversized on the car, so im stuck between either 17 or 18s. And im not sure what they mean by the offset. Any help would be great!! Thanks! |

IMO, 19's look better, 18's feel better (while driving).
There are tons of wheel manufacturer's. Just look at the wheel/tire section... Look at people pictures. I, along with many others, run VMR- they're also a sponsor on this forum. A lot of people like to run BBS or avant garde (AG). You can also spend a lot more money for something more exotic like HRE's. You first need to know what style of wheels you want. CSL? Spokes? Etc, etc. Lip? No lip? Do you want staggered set up (larger tires in the rear)? Most important is your budget. We need a lot more info from you in order to better answer your question....

Go with 19s. There the best looking set up by far. 18s will ride a tad smoother but look kind of small. If you want to spend in the range of $1000-$1500 go with a brand like tsw. I have those and they look great. If moneys not an option then go with bbs. I will try and get a pic of my rims

I like the look of the tsw's. That's the style I'm looking for, or something similar to that. are those 19's shown in the picture?
I'm looking to spend somewhere between 1000-2000. Staggered for sure. I want them to look somewhat flush with the side of the car. |

You should go with the classic look and get LM's. Those wheels are alright to me.

+1 above...go with 19's. You are right, wheels are a great place to start. I went from 16" OEM 360 style wheels to 19" Forgestar F14's and couldn't be happier. The ride is still smooth enough and they look great. Here is a pic of mine so you can see 19's.
The price of 18's to 19's isn't that significant, but IMO the 19's look so much better. I have 19x10 rear and 19x8.5 front... Is your budget $1000-$2000 including tires or just for rims? I think I spent $2700 including tires...

What about TPMS? Do most of you get sensors and put them in your aftermarket rims?

The easiest solution is to buy wheels, tires, and TPMS together from somewhere (like TireRack) that will ship it to you all good to go - just grab a jack and a torque wrench and put them on the car. Also, regarding 19" wheels, especially aggressive looking ones: modify the exterior of the car first. The car will look odd running larger, more aggressive wheels and a totally stock exterior. On a pre-LCI E90, there's a number of things I'd do before wheels.

Click my sig for wheel details, i went with 19"; I bought mine off a local forum member with tmps and tires for $900. Then re powder-coated them gloss black from matte black for another $400.
Then $300 in new H&R spacers to flush them out.

Just look at peoples cars online, on google, etc and copy what thier setup is. Theyve already done the leg work and it makes your job alot easier. As you ease into the car game, you dont want to spend money on something only to realize a year down the road after learning more that you want to go a completely different direction. so best thing to do is look at a bunch of peoples cars and see what direction you want to go with your new Beam. Best of luck to you, bud.

Depends on the wheels you're trying to get. 19's definitely LOOK awesome. I have 19's but I can say my car feels a tad bit slower coming from 17's and the handling is different too with rims that large. This is why I'm looking for a second set of 18's or 17's to swap with my 19's every now and then. Plus 19's get uncomfortable at times. IMO look for a nice set of 18s. Good luck!!
