The tool works great. I ONLY use it to clear fault, stored and shadow codes. Also got rid of one tuner code. There are way too many functions the tool can be used for. Happy that it can get rid of JB3 codes.

What does the ECU 're-set variant learning adaption' do? anyone know?

Also, why would you re-set the intake manifold adaption? Change of air filter perhaps?

It's too bad this tool can't read the transmission fluid temperature (for helping change the fluid) or disable/enable features such as rolling the windows up with the keyfob.

I will purchase this once it can read more values such as the trans temp.

I've noticed on my tool (and my brothers tool), not complaining, that the locked VIN on the enthusiast model sometimes messes up and unlocks a VIN or allows more than advertised locked VINs.

My brother has used his enthusiast version (advertised as 3 VIN only) on 4 cars (his 2 335i, my 335i, my old M3)

My BT tool I bought was previously locked with 2 VIN#'s per the seller who confirmed and sent me a screen shot, when I received it, it locked onto my VIN #, but there was only one other VIN# (previous owner) and one available VIN.

Anyone else notice this? Not complaining, I got my 2 unlocked VIN for only $150 shipped used for this reason =)

After reading this thread and many more on the internet I took the plunge and have a pro on its way. Car is out of warranty and don't plan to get rid of it anytime soon/ever and don't like the idea of having to take it to a dealer. I've done all of my own work on my cars, aside from this one thanks to the free upkeep for the four years (only have ~20k miles on it), and plan to continue to do all of my own work.

Thanks for all of the reviews and input all.

Used it for the first time yesterday and I already think it paid for itself. Definetly a must have in my opinion.

I also like this tool. I've got the Pro version.
I'm battling with the coding to activate the CD Shuttle that I've installed. I've followed the "retrofit" instructions on how to install the shuttle.
Has anyone done the coding? I've searched the internet for solutions, no luck.

you can probably do that with INPA.

I downloaded INPA. Its only giving me the F1 (Info) and F2 (Script) options to select. What else can I try besides going to the BMW dealership?

I got this reply from BT. I told them that I get the error 9194851 because its not detecting the module for the radio:

Thank you for contacting Bavarian Technic. We have added this information so that it will be included in a future release of the program.

Note that the coding option with the BT program for the Radio in this car is limited to back-up and restore. It will not help you code the new unit upon installation. For that, you will likely need access to the BMW factory tool (typically via the dealer).

Can someone verify if this is the same scanner use by the dealer for all kind of coding, programing and scan?

has anyone seen this error message when i try to reset the CBS - Condition Based Service? thanks

The command was not accepted by the control module. This can also happen when a value is not currently configured for the vehicle Please check that the value is displayed in the cars instrument cluster or i-drive, if this value is not listed in the car, then no reset or adjustment is needed

I just got a BT Tool and had the same problem trying to reset CBS on a 2006 325i. I emailed Bavarian Technic and here's the answer I got.

"Thank you for writing. We apologize for the trouble. We recognize an issue in this latest version that might prevent the resets.

Uninstall version 1.8.6.6 and install version 1.8.6.0 from here: www.bavariantechnic.com/btsetup.1.8.6.0.msi.

Note that you will not be able to reset the engine oil service with either version because the tool does not yet support that function on models that support the MSV70 unit. We hope to have the necessary support for this unit in a future release."

I haven't tried this yet, but will. Hopefully this will help somebody else.

Thinking of taking the plunge on buying one of the BT cables, but wanted some feedback from those who have more knowledge on the subject.

Would be used to read & clear codes as well as perform data logging.

My question is, I have heard that the Cobb Accessport is capable of doing both of the above said actions. Thus, would going with the accessport for a tune make the purchase of and use of the BT cable superfluous and unnecessary?

Feedback on the subject is appreciated before I make the purchase would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bavarian Technic tool

Is the Bavarian Technic tool still the best/most comprehensive product out there for reading BMW-specific codes and resetting them?

I have a new-to-me 2009 E90 and the airbag light came on and stayed this past week and I'm looking to diagnose, and at very least turn off the light. I have a cable for MHD flasher coming soon, which does some logging, and I have an i-flash cable for my DME tune, but that can only read dme codes, I think. Also, I've looked over the iCarly product and it doesn't look too comprehensive.

Any info is appreciated !

I Bought the enthusiast version to help me debug/clear an airbag warning, good response from the vendor to questions but ultimately not very helpful in this case because apparently I have the "wrong" airbag controller so it cant read the resistances despite providing a list of actual values to view.
