Fault Code 4687
Has anyone experienced with Fault Code 4687? I was playing with BMWhat and found out that i had a fault code with no SES light on the car.
I thought about contacting BMW SA but with no SES lights, i'm not sure if they will entertain my concerns. |

I have only had my car a brief time and because my SES light came on only a week after purchase, my experience may not be applicable (i.e., I may have been given preferential, new-owner treatment). Nevertheless, I had an SES light, disconnected my battery which cleared the code, and then took it to the dealer and told them to please check it even though the light was no longer on the dash. They indulged me and were able to see the code in the history. They told me it was fine since it hadn't come back and that they would not address it further. Luckily, it popped back up when they were driving around the lot. At that point, they were willing fix things (whole new scr tank due to a bad temp sensor). O know we're talking totally different codes but I thought I'd add my only experience with non-illuminated SES lights.

One problem with BMWhat is that it give you all the codes, real codes and shadow codes, and there is no way to differentiate. When I have the SES light ON, I have to use another app in order to find out which code did turn ON the SES light. I cannot rely only on BMWhat. BTW, BMW service dept. will only act on real code. |

4687 - Throttle valve actuator fault. Unless the light comes on I wouldnt worry about it, I have seen a number of different codes that come and go at random and never seem to come back. It seems like they programmed the plausibility limits a bit too narrow for the sensor range on some sensors.

Yes. BMWhat give you all the codes and no way to differentiate which one is real and which one is shadow (transient). To differentiate the codes, you have to use another software.

Any update on this? I've gotten the code a few times lately. A couple times I cleared it with BMWhat and another time it cleared itself...weird.

I'm not sure what the bmw SA did but my car seemed to have much more responsive throttle action...SA told me the throttle is at normal limits and cleared all codes and told me to bring the car back if the codes come back. well.... it came back.

I just find it odd that the SES light would come on, and then randomly go off. The only common denominator I can find is that it will come on in city driving when ambient temps are high >78* What this means, I have no idea. |

I just got the code too. Except the first time I tried, had 2 codes. Then tried this morning and the Engine: 4687 - Throttle Valve Actuator came on. I used the Carista app with the ODB module. The carlybmwhat app was a demo and did show me just 2 codes. Couldn't confirm what they were since its not a paid app.
I paid for the carista one tho. I dont have any ilghts and did have the CBU cleaned. I did have an issue with the throttle charge pipe, it needs replacing as its cracked at the joint or something. |

I just had my throttle actuator replaced, i think the part number is same as mentioned by montr. I don't feel any difference from before.
If it's under warranty, bring it in and discuss the fault code 4687 and go from there. |

Well, my charge pipe is cracked at the connector so replacing that first and see what happens. Maybe look at the actuator too at that point to see if its fine.

Did it fix your code? I have same code when I read it with my INPA. It has been there for awhile.

Just got 4687 and 46B7.
No noticeable symptoms. I'm still CPO for 2 months. I wonder if it's possible to trigger the SES associated with these codes or it's a BMW specific fault. |
