I had her pegged at 160 on a nice deserted little desert road. It pulls like a freight train all the way there. As a matter of fact, I don't even think it shifted into 6th until 150-155 mph. With limiter removed, the car will probably do about 170-175 before it redlines.

Actually that is not the case. If you go with the exhaust mod the power goes to 392/429 respectively.

Check out Dinan's site press release:

Understandable, and I saw that as it was posted...just that when I was shopping for a new car my research on the same site gave me different info.

The last paragraph here seems to indicate that the exhaust is necessary for that power level. Again, I'm not complaining..just wanted to clarify.

Interesting. What in your estimation is the actual output of the ECU flash? Where can I find this info?

You know, I always figured each company's "stages" are different. But to my understanding, usually stage one is the software it self, where as stage two includes intake and/or exhaust. Based on this, the S1 numbers I saw was 366/379.

I have the Stage II on my Z4 with additional remap for intercooler and free flow exhaust. I must say, this is the best $2000 spent on performance upgrades. It pulls hard but with a smooth torque delivery...you can't resist taking this over 150km/h on any road.

Did some casual drag runs with a 997TT, F430 and our G-Power e92 M3 - it can catch up to them fine, not sure if it can beat them but they definitely can not run away from my car now.

Awesome job by Dinan, not to mention that sweet warranty.

Budds quoted me $200 for stage 1-366hp. WTF?

Upon further investigation (although the ultimate test is a dyno read) I found in the June 2010 copy of Car & Driver the following quote from the Dinan tries to improve the M3 and the 335i" article page 118.

" Steve Dinan has sold more than 2000 software upgrades for the 135i/335i, making it the most popular upgrade in the company's 31 year history. And it's easy to see why. For $2199, a simple download at one of Dinan's 129 US dealers immediately endows a 335i with as much as 384 horsepower and 421 pound feet of torque. (versus 300 and 300 respectively). Dinan notes that this is actually more like a 60 hp gain, as BMW's twin turbo inline-six comfortably makes more than the advertised 300 horsepower in stock form."

Budds sold me the vehicle based on the Dinan providing 384/421 with just the flash. Their website and Dinan's site also suggest the same. Not looking to get too excited about the whole thing, but it appears I will go with the 3 data points above.

Dinan stage II here. I change the oil every 12,000 km. I also changed the oil after break in (1920 km).

Figure I will cover every other oil change out of pocket.

Question

Slight digression from the the main question: but a couple of things:

Any of you install the Dinan intercooler + Oil cooler AND have the M-tech front bumper? I ask because Dinan specifically states the intercooler cannot be installed with the M-Tech front - any way around this?

Also, its July 1 - I wonder if I can still get the 20% sale price today...left it last minute as I was travelling for work and missed the June 30th deadline

If you look around, you can get software for the x35i in Toronto that will give you at least 60hp gain, but for closer to $1100

Dinan Stage 1 here. My car was an early build '07 and didn't come with the factory oil cooler, so no Stage 2 for me. I got mine flashed at the 20% off rate at the same dealership I bought the car. It was about $1600 out the door including 1 hour of BMW's high labor rates.

I did read that if I were to eventually install the oil cooler, I would be credited the full price of the Stage 1 towards the Stage 2. I'm not really sure that's necessary, as I've been very pleased with the performance increase and it more than suits my daily driving needs. But is it really ever about need?
