Talking Seat of your pants perception more important

I think the feeling you get is everything, everything else is supurflous. I am sure 99% in the US will never see 150 mph anyway.

Hey I used to live Kirkland, Washington back in 2000. I did 145 on I-5 near Portland, OR headed south to Cali. A state trooper was sitting on the side of the road and going to drive onto the road. Well, I hit the brakes hard fearing if I didn't vaporize tires and have the car wrapped around him, I would be SOL. Now he never came after me, and I am sure the screatch was loud enough to be heard 5 miles away. He either was too pretified by what happened or honestry it happened so damn fast he missed the whole drama. Stupid cop, someone should teach him what they always tell everyone else look before you merge. I wasn't even running after that, I slowed to almost a crawl and was ready to rightfully go to jail for a few days. It made me question life. I know how luck I was. I love speed and occasionally go into tripple digits but I have a mental governor set to 115 on US roads. And even then, only if I have clear long range visibility. I want an exede to scoot to 100 in the time it takes to brink, but not much more. 150+ is criminal man, you should know what would happen to ya if you caused an accident going that fast. You don't have to cause the accident, others will bring it to you. Just remember that. You want to go that fast, find a track or go to the autobahn cause we have some real dumb drivers over here. That includes the cop! I geuss you can say we were both so damn happy to get outta there unharmed we both were happy to drive off to wherever slowly pondering life. I haven't gone and wont go that fast since. You got kids? I suspect not. It changes you.

Aye, I agree.

Yikes, drive safe guys. Call me a baby, but I have my speed limit warning set to 90mph, and I always reach it on the entrance ramp. Besides the track, it's the safest place to play, and I always coast back down to 70mph by the time I merge.

Unfortunately, the xede equipped 335i hits 90mph waaaay too fast, and I've got to shut it down before I even start to have fun. My body is so used to the xx secs of acceleration in my old car, that I feel funny when I hear the chime...like having a piece of candy half way to your mouth. But it just means I usually get on and off the freeway a couple of times after I make a Blockbuster run.

Drive safe and enjoy your xedes

Ive been reading a lot about the xede and the numbers that it is putting out, the only thing i dont like about it is the extra added hardware. Is there going to be a flashloader type system?

From what i understand they put in a piggyback system that works with the original cpu, in my B6 audi S4 there was no extra hardware just plug into the diagnostic port and thats it. Im wondering if there will be something like that for the 335i?

Correct it is a piggy from the ECU on our cars so no cutting of wires or anything like that.

Audi 2002 and newer are all different than the Xede. Audi's are all flashed software that is done straight hte OBD port and flashed into the ecu...hense the world "software" that they refer to when saying they are "chiped"

the piggy is nice becuase you can remove, however on audis you can just flash the ECU back to stock

Shiv,
Is it possible to switch from original map to your improved map while driving. The reason I am asking this is, it looks like right now as a result of lack of traction from improved torque numbers, stock map generates better 0-60 foot times. So if we can switch to the improved map from the original like in mid 2nd gear, then i believe we would be able to go under 13 without a problem.

What do you think?

I wouldnt want less power.Try throwing on bigger tires on the rear and modulating the throttle a little better.

He said he's working on this.

In a recent post, shiv said he is working a having the boost come on at a growing rate in the lowest rpm's instead of all at once to help reduce wheelspin and increase acceleration right now. To my knowledge he hasn't givin an update on that yet.

I hope he errs on the side of more power as most of us who get the xede will also do either lsd or fat sticky tires or both I think. I'm planning on getting at least 275's and maybe 285's and extreme performance summer tires, for my summer setup.

Yeah im going with 19X10 with 275's in the back, some coils, and when someone has an LSD i'll be all over that. Those things should fix most of the traction problems. If it doesnt then drag radials!

Big tires are good for 0-60 foot times, but they may be costly on the top end, its like putting taller gears on a car and more contact patch creates drag. I would rather keep all suspension and tires stock (may be a stickier rears), but have the boost come gradually for better launches. Once you get going, you are out of the meat of the torque curve, so why slow the rate of acceleration in the top end with huge tires.

Keep the power the same and just buy some drag radials. No one has made an official run with wider non-run flats either. I believe shiv is still on the stock run flats. RFTs aren't very conducive to drag racing.

Its premature to assume that its too much power, and that you made need to switch back to stock map in low gears, etc. There is one official pass 1/4 mile pass with the Xede from a brilliant tuner, but who already stated he sucks at drag racing! Give it time, there will be much better times put up by different drivers.

I hear what you're saying about bigger tires affecting the top end but if you put bigger tires on with really light wheels then you will even out that loss and get good traction and still have good top end. The stock wheels are pretty heavy, im going with the lightest wheel that looks somewhat decent. The enkei RP-F1. The rears weigh like 20lbs.

Will 275s fit on that back end? I'm still waiting for my coupe, so I don't know.

I hope they'll fit, if they dont i'll roll the fenders but im putting it on coils so i will be able to adjust. My buddy just put Vellano 19's on his E92 with 265's in the back on H & R race springs and he rubs a little bit going up a driveway.

You can fit up to 285 with the right offset on the rear. On tirerack the recommended tire size if your buying 20's (which I'm not, 19s for me) is a 295. So I guess you can go 295 with 20's and right offset.

I'm hearing what your saying about the wider tires at top end but if you look at any other stock car with comparable torque/HP at a xede-335i you will see most of them run 300+ and usually have a LSD to boot!

I think the c5 vette is 315 with LSD for example. The 911 turbo even with AWD runs 305 rears stock. Although I think the e60 m5 is only 285-295 but has LSD obviously.

I think 285/245 with sticky rubber is perfect for a 390 HP 430 torque car(at the crank) for a summer setup, especially without LSD. This is assuming you have zsp not lower.

BTW, regarding wheel/tire weight I found out something interesting on tirerack the other day.

If you compare the weight of the actual tire@ 19/275 rear and 19/245 front on the leading brands (leading according to tirerack) there is a big difference. The michelin PS2's are LIGHT! the fronts are 24lbs and the rear are 25 lbs compared to the Bridgestone Potenza's re50a and Goodyear gsd3's (or whatever they are called) the Potenza and gsd3's weight 29lbs front and 30lbs back. Considering that this weight is the furthest from the center and that you would lose a total of 18lbs unsprung weight just by getting ps2's vs the other two that's pretty significant. Those weights are for non-rft's.

Xede is faster than stock 0-60ft. Differences in the 60ft measures are, however, due to differences in traction i.e. how well tires are heated, the amount of dirt in the pavement, the temp of the pavement, skill, luck...

2.2sec 0-60 foot is horrible with exede. Its too much torque in the low end causing this. If you look at the stock version it is doing 60 foot in 1.9 sec. Thats right of the bet adding 0.3 seconds to your slip. This means a bone stock 335 will be 0.3 seconds ahead of XEDE. ALthough this means not much to the unexperienced, last time i lost to somebody that was .3 faster than me, looked like he passed me standing still.

Nobody wants the idea of detuning their car. They want mega hp, mega torque. If you cant put it down, you are not gonna be any different than a PONTIAC GTO. What i am suggesting is not a complete detune, its a slight gear related one. Like progressive NOS KITS do. Gently raising the boost in the begining, then giving it all where it can take

I drove evos, stis. On a roll stock to stock none of these cars are any faster than 335. But why are they so quick on quarter mile, because of the 0-60 foot times. They can put the power down, we cant.

How about leave the traction control on from 0-25mph and then turn it off from there instead of detuning the xede????

ok i think u all are digging too deep into this 2.2 60ft. shiv himself said he wasnt sure how to launch the car. i think we need a few more testers to chime in with 60 ft. times before we have shiv modify the software
