Wastegate rattle - dealer software update
Hi, just want to know if my car has been software updated to 29.2 to "fix" the wastegate rattle, is there any way I can go back to previous software version?
The software update 29.2 will degrade the car performance, and I will not want that happen. Will a flash like MHD bring the performance back to my car after the dealer updated the software on my car? http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...oftware+update Also, how may I check if I have the 29.2 version or not? I ask this because I brought my car to dealer for the half engine light, I feel like the car is somewhat not as powerful as before, and that's why I suspect they might have update all the software on my car... |

But I saw people saying that the 29.2 does degrade the car performance after bringing to the dealer.
They said that BMW will try to fix the wastegate rattle by updating software to 29.2 but that will also decrease the power out by having a more obvious turbo lag. I have checked my software version according the procedure from the internet and mine is B3.41.CO.....totally different than what the others are having.... |

I am aware of the mechanical issue, I read the post on how to tighten it and our cars are harder than the ones in US since we have got the steering column. So, the software 29.2 doesn't impact our car in any way? I read people complaining about the software 29.2 that decreases the performance of the car, and the 29.2 software is the first resolution by the dealer for any complaint lodged by the customer in regards to the wastegate rattle. When I bought my car to the dealer last week, I did mention about any wastegate rattle. I found that my car feels like having a turbo lag which wasn't previously after I took the car back. That's why I looked into the software 29.2 issue and thought if they have done that to my car too. When I checked the software version in my car, I couldn't see anything like 29.2, but while the 29.2 brought to my attention, I just want to learn more and see if anyone knows anything about it. |

I have also wondered about this. The day I bought my car, it felt as though it has instant torque as soon as the throttle was depressed, as in V8 torque from idle. The same day, I had issues with it stalling, so I took it to a dealer to have this rectified. Turned out to be the charge pipe gaskets, so they were replaced. But I have a suspicion that the 'reset adaptations' entry on the invoice means they installed the latest software version at the same time as a preemptive measure. Because when I drove the car next, it felt different - i.e. not the same instant torque output from idle.

To answer your question yeah its probably the latest update that has the rattle fix applied. |

Any of the lag settings affect partial throttle behaviour, when at wot it doesnt matter if you have your wastegates at 0% or 100% closed the car will make the same boost no matter what the "wastegate fix" is set at.
The car will feel real doughy at 100% open and pretty snappy when shut. But wot will be the same If you have an engine light popping up what are the codes? You could just have a vacuum leak if it just returned from the dealer? |

002A87 - exhaust vanos variable cam control test, mechanical 003100 - boost pressure control 2 checked online that it should be the exhaust vanos, but the dealer said that it is related to something in regards to the valve timings and fixed it. I haven't got any paper work from them to read through what they have done though (I got it fixed as per statutory warranty) but I felt like the car has really lost some power and not as powerful as before. That's why I searched more about the software 29.2. |

No, Maybe it will be a generic wastegate% that works for most cars. It would be around 50% like jb4
I have not used mhd so im not sure whats going on. Buraq can tune whatever you want though. If you have a n54 even with no mods get a pro tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

BMW dealer are not the best
They will replace every component around the problem until the codes stop, meanwhile you are paying f things you dont need. I went in for them to adjust my headlights and came back with all these problems. They told me i needed bearing ledge replaced and vanos solenoids. All it was they broke the nipple off under the inlet manifold when putting it back together. |

Also, after I took the car back, the next day I had the engine light and same codes again. Tried reset the car twice and the codes and engine light were gone. I have never done WOT since I got the car 2 months ago. WOT means flooring the throttle all the way to the "click", am I correct? For 3 sec WOT, I am afraid I will get a very serious speeding fine.... |

They're not vacuum codes.
2A87 - Exhaust cam VANOS solenoid is probably sticky. Can either clean or replace it. 3100 - Limp mode, boost pressure is reduced because of the above fault. If you go full throttle and the code comes back, then get them to replace the VANOS solenoid. You're under warranty so just get them to fix it properly
