?key/ignition not working
After having no issue two hours prior, my '06 330i will now not start. Won't even attempt to turn over. Headlights, radio and remote lock all work. Interior lights and lights under door handles don't work. When I put key in ignition radio turns on for a few seconds then turns off automatically. A/C never turns on. I am then able to turn radio back on at the dash, just like I can when they key isn't in the ignition. I don't have CA. Car is parked on an incline. Front wheels are pointing fairly straightforward. Battery is less than 2 yr old. Thoughts?

Same thing happened to me it was my battery, first jump it and let it charge for about 10-20 mins then try it. If it works then it is infact your battery and you will need a replacement. If it doesnt it might be your starter at the worst case youll have to get it checked out :/

Jump it from under the hood then let BMW take a look at it. I do alot of my own work on my car but when it comes to the battery I let them do it. I had something similar happen to me and I replaced the battery.

steering wheel lock?
The battery checks out ok and the starter is less than one year old. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the steering lock since: 1) the car is on an incline, 2) the car makes no attempt to start and 3) only certain systems do not work. It almost seems like something that triggered those systems to disengage or shut off. Does anyone know if a steering lock malfxn could do this? Time to go fiddle with it. Thanks.

fixed, but now what?
Fiddling finished. I got it fixed, at least temporarily. I think it does have something to do with the steering wheel lock (probably using the wrong terminology) because once the wheel unlocked everything worked fine.
Anyone have any thoughts on this, such as if this is a progressive thing that I need to have looked at? Costs associated with the fix? Thanks. |
