I have just P/E ma pride and joy 335iM drop top for a 325d M coupe. Mileage to and from work was killing me, hence the logical choice. Any you boys got a 325d e92 and how do they perform, not even drove it as yet purchased over the phone. Ma 335i is running on a JB+ also so 340bhp plus is what its running on, how does the 197bhp 325dm fair. Will it need re mapped as I have already made enquiries.

Some of you may think am mad, me too however 22mpg is sore, 35-40mpg for me is the way to go.

interesting point I'm in a split decision and as my settlement figure is looking very good tempting to drop the 320D and go up to 325D or 330D.

Just thinking from those who drive it also what is the real world mpg on the two.

Right now I can get 58.8 very often on motorway am I in for a big shock if I swap.

Recently changed my 123d and bought a new 325d E91, with the 204 bhp engine in it. According to a post elsewhere here, it can be mapped up to 300bhp without changes to injectors; turbo or intercooler.....apparently not so straight forward on the 197bhp version.

I'm not planning going there yet but pleased with the car so far and I'm returning high 48's mpg average on a tight engine, so not a huge drop there magic...........

Mines around 240bhp with bluefin installed, I came from 320bhp Petrol and I don't miss it nearly as much as I thought I would, I am loving the 3.0 the power is really well placed. I am to change the map to one of the more known company's like evolved.

Why would you buy a car without knowing what its like to drive? Madness.

It performs like a 330d thats down on power whilst offering no real economy benefit over the 330d.

Hi, I'm running an e92, 2008 325d auto (6 spd) which I have had from new. Performance? It reminds me of my original e46 330d (184hp), plenty of performance for my day to day needs, with a reasonable fuel efficiency.

As far as economy goes, I get 45+/- at M-way speed limit. Driving faster would see the mpg drop to 39-40. If it was consistently run at high speeds, it may drop to 38, but not seen lower than that however fast.

Open roads, averaging 50-70mph would see 48-50mpg. Urban, stop-start driving sees it drop to 30 or so mpg.

The old 330d e46 I ran was a manual (5 speed) and regardless of how I drove that on the M-way, 40mpg was returned.

very interesting its getting me thinking if I should swap especially with fuel prices the way they are.

One site wants a 6 pot diesel but other sensible says the 65mpg I'm getting on motorway is very usefull.

Starting to think maybe a swap to a 320 184bhp in coupe might be better

There's been many posts on mpg and TBH I am amazed at some of the figures claimed. I drive hard full stop and changed from a 320d to a 330d. Not seen much difference. On a run the 320 was better but on my commute both give 28ish. If you can afford it the 330 is way more fun!

I have an e90 325D M Sport with the 204PS engine. To be honest I am quite happy with it. I am also running a DTUK Red which has made a bigger differnece than I though it would, the pace of the car has been massivly improved. Fuel economy is between 36 to 47 mpg. Depends on the road, motorway, traffic and the driving mood I am in.

Main areas where I think it lets itself down are;

1. The brakes, these can be overwhlemed quite quickly. Find a twisty bit of road with a national speed limit (of cource) and you can get the brakes quite upset.

2. Body roll, M Sport does have excellent grip and handels well but sometimes feels like body roll is a little bit higher than I would expect in a car like this. However, percpetion is everything, when on track and you can line corners up then its fine. Normally the roll seems worst when making progress round a large roundabout.
I tend to find that provoking the backend a little make for smoother progress, which sounds odd but body roll is reduced.

Other than that its all good.

You are very brave to buy a car without trying it out first. I could not do it but plenty of people do.

thanks dape some good info, I drove a 325D a while back before it went LCI and was very impressed but I agree you should try a car before buying. In my case looking at e92 I have to do the fun car seat check first before ordering

used to have a 320D coupe (57 plate) used to average 54 mpg, sold it for a 330D E93 (58 plate) I get around 47 mpg, mostly motorway stuff. Have to try stop smiling all the time and also finding excuses to take the car out. Never enjoyed a car so much

I love my 325d and think it's a great car if you want a 6 cylinder and cant quite afford the 330d.

When i bought mine I was looking at both 330d and 325d, the price difference was around £3k and at the time I was buying it for my misses so the power was not an issue. She now has a TT TDI and I sold my porsche and took on the BMW (as I liked it so much) although now I would like a 330/335d as I think that would be the right balance...

If you have a 320d I am not sure you will find a massive performance gain but you will get a super smooth 6 cylinder engine that gives good MPG and a nice blend of performance
