Upgraded twins at Dealer?

So my 08 135i has some serious rattle going on.

Has anyone had the dealership place upgraded turbos instead of the stock ones in the setting of wastegate rattle?

Seems silly for me to have them install brand new stock ones and me reinstall upgraded ones a few weeks later (original plan, just now expedited).

I'm also assuming I won't need to buy another install kit if I proceed with the hybrids going in so soon after.

Tell them they can keep the oem turbos if they install your upgraded oem. That's about 1k in their pocket while they still get paid for a warranty repair.

Understandable concern, however, it's already been decided they won't. So figured I'd ask.

Most dealers won't work with aftermarket parts.

Have them do the warranty work for free on their dime.

Then when you have another shop do the aftermarket turbo's, sell the "like new" oem turbo's and it will offset some of the labor of the aftermarket turbo's.

I think I'll do that. I'll have to see what the new OEM ones go for and knock some off that price. My guess is they will have less than 40 miles on them since I'm itching to do this soon.

I'd definitely take free turbo's and free labor.

I doubt they will just give you the turbo's but feel free to ask and say you'll install them yourself.

well it may make sense to have them do it and replace whatever else is needed and comes with the warranty repair. I certainly wouldn't want any surprises when it comes time to do the upgraded ones. This way I also avoid another install kit.

My guess is that they need to send the malfunctioning turbos back to justify the warranty repair.

Yes they will need to send them back most likely.. Having them install you may get a lot of other stuff done like oil lines, etc. So worth having them do the work.

If you have an 08, you are most likely out of warranty.

I just got my car back. Dealer replaced both the turbos and the HPFP under warranty. I guess I'll end up upgrading the turbos on my own terms soon.
