HELP! My e90 will not start, completely dead
Really at wits end...my car (08 335i with JB4 and DCI, otherwise stock) will not start at all, no lights, nothing. I hit the Start button and absolutely nothing. Battery is one year old. Tried jumping it off neighbor's car, but still just a brick. Here is the sequence of events:
* Got oil change last night, drive it home, no issues * noticed they forgot to reset service reminder light, so I reset it * Few hours later (11 pm) I opened driver door to get something out of car and noticed when I did that the yellow exclamation point appeared in dash, and the car bonged at me...I thought it was weird but ignored it went to bed * At 11am this morning, jumped in to go somewhere, and nothing happens when pressing start So far I have done following: * I tried both keys (BTW - must have left one of the keys in the car overnight, else the yellow exclamation would not have appeared) * I tried unplugging negative terminal of battery for 15 min, no luck * I tried unplugging IBS cable, no luck * I removed glove box and can see fuse box, but did not check any fuses (yet) * I tried jiggling the red power cable that connects to back of fuse box, no luck So...apparently, I left the keyfob in the car and the ignition in the ACC position (which you would need to do to reset service lights) all night long. But I cannot understand why I get no juice at all, even when jumping it. Read thru these forums about fuses, power cables connected to back of fuse box, a recall on said cable, battery sensor, etc. Cannot seem to figure it out. I will have to have it towed to shop, I guess. Any ideas? |

Whats the manufacturer date on the battery. I bought a battery for my neon with a manufacturer date of 2011 and last 1.5yrs before it died. bought it brand new in Oct 2014.

Its a duralast. I just put a multimeter on it and it says 4v at the battery and 0v at the jumper post inside the engine bay. The car shop guy said if 4v or less, it would take 1.5 hours to charge fully, which might explain why it didnt start after only 5 min of jumping from other car. Will take battery out and go to AutoZone to have them charge it. Hopefully thats all it was...that the ignition was left on overnight and rally drained it.

the best thing to do is to just take it out and take it AutoZone an have them charge then test the battery. It may have been damaged due to the full discharge. Either way its definitely the battery thats causing your issues.
I ran my battery down once before when my alternator failed. Once I replaced the battery and the alternator there were 68 trouble codes in the computer I had to clear before the car would run properly. These cars are so darn picky about low voltage its almost crazy. |
