Run Flat Tires. Do they? Umm, no. Not far.
Good news everyone! I now know how far one can drive on RFT's before they fail completely! 15 miles!!!
Yes it's true. TPMS light comes on. I drive at 45MPH. 15 miles latter, squishy, thump, thump, thump. Also the tire failed. OEM Bridgestones with only about 40,000 mile on them. Still lots of tread left. Hey, it's not like I'm driving a Corvette. Now (a week ago) I'm stuck in Tipton, Ca, Pop. 2540. Ye haw, pass me an Oly! With the help of our son (after he drive 170 miles to get to us. Still does not even began to make us even in car towing.) and Uhaul we got the E92-328 home. I'm going to replace the RFT with non-RFT. Not sure what yet. Well, at least I've got my insanity. Stay inflated my friends.

That's what my son had on his '04 GTO.
Now that someone else has said it, I believe it.

Im ditching at the first opportunity. They ride hard and dont deliver when it comes time to do what they were supposed to do. The dealer was really pushing the extended warranty for the RFTs but Id rather spend that money on the mobility kit.

40k miles on them?
Im surprised they even lasted 15 miles deflated. My non-run flats have always lasted about 25k. Maybe I should move away from high performance tires maybe not |

40,000 miles on original tires? That sounds like a lot IIRC. You sure they werent replaced once before? I thought the run flats were supposed to go 50 miles at 50 MPH?
http://continentaltire.custhelp.com/...(ssr)-tires%3F i guess it depends according to them. |

My turanza's limit is 35k miles. 40k on a low profile run flat is a lot

I used to do RFT testing. Typically they are only good for 30 miles at 30mph. I would never drive 45mph on a flat RFT.

We bought the car CPO in 2011 with 35,500 miles and 4 new tires. 40k miles I thought was pretty good.

I've put over 100 miles on RFT on flat before.. I live 30 miles out of town so sometimes I have no choice but go.
I'll always have runflats but I've had a great experience with them. TPMS comes on and I only have to slow down a little. |

Just purchased a set of Continental Extreme DWS. So far, very happy with ride and handling. TireRack customer reviews and a personal suggestion steered me toward them.
I've been through 2 sets of Bridgestone Runflats...and I will never own another. Pros: great response/cornering, can drive when flat. Cons: Hard ride, uneven wear, pull badly in uneven asphalt, short life, way overpriced, can only drive a few miles when flat. 1st blowout, I drove about 13 miles and the tire was shreaded and the sidewall had cracked and had started coming off the wheel. 2nd blowout, I pulled over after about 3 miles and the tire was so hot I'm sure it wouldn't have survived another 5 miles. |

40k miles on them? WTF?
I've Owned both an E90 and an E92, both always had OEM runflats and they never got past 16k miles. I'm assuming you have a non-sport car and that's why they last longer?

I have had AAA towing for 15 years and not a year has gone by that it has not paid for itself.
My last two sets of RFT's have lasted right about 30,000 and I have had no issues except the price. Wife insisted on keeping RFT's with two young children and not wanting to get stranded, no spare, ect.
