Arrow N54 HPFP recall issues get national news coverage

i was just informed that on oct. 26th, ABC will feature stories of HPFP failures in bmw n54 vehicles. first, good morning america will do a short piece on it. then, Nightline will also cover the story. this is in response to the class action lawsuit filed in california. just thought i'd pass the information along

This sucks. Another AUDI!!!! Which basically destroyed them for oh, 10 years, and turned out to not be THEIR FAULT!!! BMW is at fault (through suppliers) and needs to get ahead of this NOW.

i actually think it's a good thing it's getting covered. bmw is more likely to invest money in a permanent solution if the hpfp issues get this type of news coverage.

don't you guys think this will hurt the N54 community in terms of a nationalised (heck all of North America) resale value drop.
we have people already iffy on the HPFP issues and are nervous to buy already. Make it a nationwide news thing.. think of how hard it will be now...

my 2 cents.

I hope it opens BMW's eyes at how potentialy dangerous the failure could be, it is a real safty hazard not just an anoyance.

I think this will actually help Canadians (like you and I) get longer warranty on this! And get BMW to own up to their responsibilty on this issue....

If a real fix is found, wouldn't resale value be taken care of ?

*shrug* i'd still buy an n54. I LOVE the engine. I'm glad this is getting coverage. Maybe BMW will focus some more attention to this problem now. We've only been waiting for a REAL fix for 4 years now.

N55 still has HPFP issues so there IS NO FIX. Only bandaids. Your old HPFP had 120k mile warranty; warranty doesn't mean fix.

If BMW would just fix the damn problem and not blow it off as some anomaly, we wouldn't be where we are today then would we?!?!

+1 Or at a minimum, provide a pump that will last longer than driving off the dealer lot? Maybe a pump that after 50k miles needs to be replaced... Ultimately a pump that would last the life of the car would be optimal, but if that's not possible, atleast a pump that would last 50 or more thousands of miles..

im for it..they need to fix the problem once and for all and do a recall of all those with old pumps. i get a long crank like once a month, but no codes so i doubt bmw would do anything. id rather go in for a recall and have the newest (working) pump for peace of mind

new pump same fail. iirc there was a thread where they talked about this and one factor mentioned was the ethanol content in gasoline. apparently our HPFP isn't equipped to handle such high ethanol levels. not sure the validity of this though. so there's also a slight chance the real culprit is the gas we use.

But the only problem with that statement is the fact that there are confirmed HPFP failures in countries that don't use ethanol... Why can't BMW just take a page from Toyota's handbook and just recall the lot, and give us all replacement M' models versions of our cars (or SAV's)... Pipe dream, I know

this coverage on ABC could be the start of bmw getting forced into a recall

A recall of what, the whole car, the engine, the fuel management system, the HPFPs,..what?

I think at best, most will get a new #933 HPFP and the addition of a 10yr/120K ext warranty that covers failures. Anything more severe than that could result in a bankrupt company if they have to get into eng or car swaps. We are talking about a lot of cars since '07!

And lastly, what is the impact on our resale value going to be on our beloved x35i's when all is said and done?...We are most defiantly in a catch 22 on this one!
