BMW admitted to ABC News that it wasn't until March of this year, four years after these cars were introduced, that it finally found a fix: a properly working fuel pump. "We were making changes but we also had to see and make sure that they were actually reliable in the field," said Baloga.
is this in reference to the -933 pump and the software upgrade...which according to some posts on this forum....still didn't resolve the issue?? |

I'm guessing the big statement is an official recall.. to upgrade everyone to the 933 pump and new software. With this story in the news BMW needs to do something, even though we all know it isn't a fix.

i bet that it will be a recall to install the 933 pump into all n54 based vehicles and of course, the obligatory software update!

look, we are issuing a recall. we understand that we were wrong in not wanting to "inconvenience" our customers, but since the customers do want us to issue recalls and update pumps. we will now issue recalls and improvements of our high pressure fuel pumps whenever they come out....BUT will there be a catch? the e46 m3 had its rear floor come off on cars (rear subframe). bmw issued a "fix" but only if the car had retained its stock suspension. what will bmw do now

...is what should have us concerned. The SW seems to have the effect of prolonging the pump but to the detriment of performance, at least that was the case in my experience, tamed the beast!

^ I dont even think the pump itself is really improved, I'd guess that the software is masking symptoms and combined with a fresh pump it will last a little longer. Still not a solution.. The fuel system should last the life of a vehicle.

I'm still of the opinion that it is a priming and lubrication issue that is causing the failures.
