Hi mates,

Today I'm gonna show you how to retrofit Dynamic Xenon into a BMW e92/e93 (here in Spain this is an extra equipment)

It is not very difficut but expensive.

The task is remove the bumper, change the headlamps, wire them, change the FRM module and recode the car.

You can also see how to disconnect the battery and also how to remove the bumper.

You know that the problem for retrofitting is only the money
The knowledge about how to do it is the easiest part

Now I am looking for a dashboard for idrive and a CIC set.
I also have a Logic7 kit and a MULF2 high but waiting for the CIC since my current Head Unit is not able to manage them.

Very helpful diy. The only thing you didn't include was the part numbers for the pins. Here is also the official instructions from BMW.

Also my cornering lamps aren't working. They are wired the same way. I coded $524 and reset the frm.

I got the wirings from a scrap-yard so I do not know the p/n for pins.
I can provide the p/n for the small ones but I do not know the big ones (lights and power supply)

The wiring diagram is exactly the same especified in the PDF file but the inner cornering light because e90 has the same wire than halogen high beam.

E92/E93 does not have halogen high beam and this wire (which will be used for cornering) has to be fitted or code the fog lights as cornering (which illuminate worse than the inner eye).

The other way is not installing this wire and lose the cornering feature but I love it.

Yeah I already have everything installed, I just need to get the adaptive feature working when I have some time.

Thanks, those turned out to be not what I needed. I went to the dealership and they only had 12 of the ones I did need so I took them all. I forgot to ask for the P/N though. I think supply for these things are controlled to stop people from mass producing DIY harness LOL.

I'm planning on building my own ALC wiring harness. I need to order 6 of each of the above parts for the connection to the headlight pins, correct?

@[Jose_JN] Hello, is the schematic for the headlamp pinout the same with the one from e90 adaptive headlight? I have a error for the right SMC controller. NCS or any other program (INPA/ISTA...etc) can not communicate with it. I have replaced the SMC controller with a new one, but the problem is still present. So, as far as I noticed, pin no. 9 is the SMC power supply according to your diagram. That pin on my headlight connector is damaged(bended). I asked may other guys and they said that pin no. 9 of my headlamp is unused, so is not a problem that the pin is damaged. Thank you.

I know this is an old topic - but I hope you can help. I have the adaptive headlights from the factory. Recently the high beam has stopped working. I can activate the high beam with Rheingold just fine - but pulling (or pushing) the stalk only gives me the blue icon in the kombi - no high beam. If the curve lights are on and I pull the stalk - they will turn off just like expected. But the high beam will not be enabled.

Any ideas?

the DIY is depends on what your base car spec (if it has xenon already or no)
thats why there is no universal guide

I do have xenons on my E90 LCI, and I would like to retrofit the directional lights, because I drive a lot on small countryside roads by night, and I think it would improve my confidence and safety on these. (Sorry for the mistakes, but english isn't my first language)

ok, so the diagram in that thread is very helpful
what you need to do, is to get current diagram from ISTA or NEWTIS, and find, which current wires will be not used after headlight swap
you have now wiring going to control tilt motors directly from frm, they will be not used with AHL
also you have to bring PTCAN to FRM, and make the common wire for SMC
also you need AHL headlights and FRM AHL version

I am in the same situation as @evildos. I have a E91 LCI with S522 Xenon light. I have already bought AHL Headlights. Is the FRM the only other part i need? Then the rest is wiring and coding? Do you now what that FRM is called?

I made my own wiring harness and here are the parts needed:

6x terminal socket (for wire going into headlight plug) - part #61136901728
6x sealing grommet (for wire going into headlight plug) - part #61138366245
2x cable terminal (for ground wire going to chassis) - part #61138353763
5x bushing contact (for wires going into footwell module plug) - part #61130005197
electrical wire (22 awg in various colors, 20 awg, 18 awg in brown for ground)
wire harness tape

For tools, you'll need a soldering iron, solder, wire stripper, and a terminal crimping tool for crimping the terminal socket/cable terminal onto a wire.

Sorry to dig up this old thread but thank you for everyone who has posted. I recently finished an AHL retrofit for my E82. Besides a few minor misteps, it seems almost everything is working.

Yesterday I finally put in the Max Keuster FRM and coded it. All lights seems to work, I've been able to code the SMC/AHL modules and I can see the lights moving. However, I persistently get the 9CC1 error "Stepping motor controller (SMC), left, signaling fault". Once it pops up, the lights will do their reference check and then the L light will seem to jam in the leftmost position for about 5 seconds before returning to centre. After that, it will only move up and down, not side to side.

I've rechecked the wiring and solder join - no issues there. I've even switched the AHL module between headlights. It initially followed to the R headlight, triggering a 9CC2 error but once I recoded both sides, it reset to the left side.

I am going to back to check my harness on the L side in case there is any loose connections but just wondering if any one has any ideas?

BTW, the headlights and the AHL modules are brand new.
