Downloading to hard drive (mp3)

My brother owns an 09 E92. Unfortunately he doesn't know much about computers in general and I don't play enough with the media center on the car to find out.

The manual doesn't seem very helpful on this either.
So, here's what I'm trying to do.

I want to fill the hard drive on the car with MP3.
That's it. He has a 4 gig usb to transfer his files. Or I can let him borrow my 16 gb if it makes it easier.

A few questions:
What is the max (gigabytes) I can use to store mp3's?
If I use the 4 gig, can I load up 4 gigs, then add more music later? or will this erase the previous files?
How long does it take (approx) to upload the max capacity?
Any restriction on bitrate?
Any restriction on file names?

How can I delete all the files and redo this properly.
I'd love to get a step by step on this.
It's getting quite annoying.

Thanks

I have the usb/ipod feature on my 09 335, no idrive. I use a 4gb usb stick works fine. It's going to be a trial and error thing with drives. there's a list of drives that are compatible with the car, do a quick search.

all 4gb on my stick are of music. in my experience vista could only support a finite number of files per folder. if you reach the number of files but still have space in the drive, make sub folders.
loading time and max capacity will depend on that individual drive's size and i/o speeds.
don't think there's a limit of bitrate, should be on par or a bit better than cd quality.
you can make file names as long as you want, but they won't scroll.
