If it is a direct Rolex service/shop, then it should be fine. However the guys in Sydney are franchised. I don't feel like to flying to Melbourne once every few years just for watch service.

How much does a full service cost once those watches are out of warranty and how often, how good are these franchised guys? I am thinking could ship to a US AD for servicing if the saving is huge

lol no need to ship to the U.S, its not necessary to service a watch.
Most of the time its just to clean the inside. I think servicing is more for watches that go through the daily grind.

they recomend every 4 years i think?

Also what about the vintage ones more than 20-30 years old? Is it expensive to maintain them?

We knew a watchmaker that did mine before I started wearing it, but shops in the city wanted from $750-1300ish. It had not been worn or active in a while.

Don't know how much service costs here as dad hasn't needed his watch to be serviced yet. The Submariners are very good mechanically so it is safe to say servicing them every 5-6 years is fine. The Tag i have now hasn't been serviced for 7 years and is still going strong (hasn't been serviced at all lol).

Some friendly advice, don't ship any watch overseas as you probably won't see it again.

Overseas and watches don't mix at all.

Unless you are talking about duty free or something.

Buying IN PERSON overseas = ok.

Buying online or sending away or basically anything that is not in person = fail.

Another thing to watch out for (no pun intended), are watches with real casing, but fake movement. So it looks like you have a real Rolex/IWC/Omega etc.. because the watch face and bits you see ARE real. The problem is, the inside bits (the things you mostly pay for) the movement and parts might just be plastic or something. This probably happens when people send their watches overseas. Maybe never see it again, and some dodgy shop will use your case and insert rubbish parts. The watch then "looks" real and works, but its not all it should be.

ZODIAC (SWISS MADE)

Has anyone had any experience with this brand? (Other than Tim Cahill)

I'm interested in buying the following watch. It retails for about $750.

Think the deep sea is chunkier than the submariner
Did the submariner fit well?

yes I did try the sub but didnt look that stylish to be honest maybe because Rolex doesn't change the styling as often as Omega does. If a sportier watch would go with the deep sea or the previous model of that. The current Deep sea is however very chunky, will post`some comparison wrist pics from another site.

The deepsea, now that is one awesome watch, it's the M3 of rolexes. Titanium and a sturdier case with sub frame inside.

I am sure it would, the band has three different places to adjust, plus you can always take a chunk out of band. Do you know how much it's retailed for? Was $12k last time I checked

You should be able get the Deep sea sea dweller about 8-8.5K with a US authorised dealer, some here are of the opinion you could get 30% off from dealers here too but haven't tried that much. You could also get a previous version pre owned sea dweller in mint condition for about 6k if the ,current Deep seas size bothers you. The Omega equivalent is the Planet Ocean which looks cool and is priced much lower too. The great thing from a financial viewpoint is how all Rolexes and some Omegas keep pace with inflation even 20-30 years down the line if taken good care of.
