What was the date of your first failure? Just wondering because it'll tell us which pump/software failed the second time.

So he didn't think that there would be a 'detuning' as part of the recall.

Makes me wish I had dyno-ed the car before the recall so I could compare to the 'after'...

I had the car out again later today, and I still think there could be some greater lag, but I'm not convinced there's a drop in acceleration... that still feels GOOD!!

Thinking I do have the this problem,
I do feel a decrease in acceleration. My idle for my 328i coupe (08), is ridicously slow (if not sometimes dipping under 500rpm). Car stutters at stop lights, (especially can feel it when i'm 1/2 way braking).

Engine light came on for the first time today, scheduled an appointment for tomorrow...hopefully i'll get an error and it's because of the HPFP (because if it's anything else.. i just went over 50,000 miles T.T)

Has anyone gotten a "new" pump or are they still using the old part or reman pumps?
If nobody has gotten a new and different pump then I have to believe that they are changing the programming again. If it is mechanically the same part that has been failing all along and suddenly it stops failing(and the only things that were changed were the pump and software) then we are back where we started 4 years ago.
Same shit different year.

The is no new pump for field service only rebuilt pumps. Even the 2011 models with new pumps have been failing so there is no reason to believe the HPFP issue has been resolved.

I took my 335i to get some routine work done at the BMW dealer yesterday and while the car was there they stated they would replace my HPFP (which I never had a problem with) due to the factory recall. They claim that the HPFP has a brand new design and that they have not seen any failures with the new design.

They also claimed that the flaw with the original HPFP was due to the fact that it was designed for diesel fuel from Europe and wasn't designed to handle gasoline with ethonol (which most U.S. gas has).

I never had any issues with the HPFP in the first place so I'm simply relaying the info regarding the "new" design which is supposedly made for gasoline engines and is supposed to solve the previous problems.

Smooth, when you get your car back check the work order for the part number of the fuel pump they put in. I am curious to see if it is really a different part.

I've been holding off purchasing a 335 for this very reason. I would like more info if you have it.

Has anyone gotten their fuel pump replaced under warranty in the last 30-60 days? If so would you check what the part number is on the work order?
Thanks

I got my HPFP replaced on Jan 11. The part number appears to be 13-51-7-616-446.

On the invoice it says 1 13-51-7-616-446 Exchange High-Pressure Pump:135019.

I just got the car a few weeks ago so I am not sure if the HPFP has ever been replaced before.

Need feedback. My '11 335i may be showing symptoms of HPFP problems. When pressing accelerator, car hesitates and engine tack revs above 5K. Car does not move faster or accelerate at all. A yellow icon of car with exhausts displays on dash every time I try to press accelerator. Feels like I am driving my old 328i where there is a lag in acceleration. Car only has 2750 miles. Bringing car to dealer to check on Tuesday. Is this a symptom of turbo or HPFP problems?
thanks

I've got 3 quick questions for you

If a HPFP needed replacing (outside of extended warranty), what cost are we looking at? (I'm in the UK).

If it wasn't replaced, what damage could be done to the engine?

Is this a worldwide issue, or more prone to the USA? (i.e does the UK suffer as badly too?)

The "new design" replacement HPFP part number is:
13-51-7-616-446

It's not that simple. It appears that the combination of new/rebuilt pumps, ECU reprogramming, and selective injector replacement that BMW has been pursuing is at least **somewhat** effective.

However, people still report HPFP failures, up through and including the 2011 models; so, no -- just having the "latest" part does not keep it from failing.

Make sure the recall has been done on any car you are considering, though. That will at least give you the newest pump, software, and possibly some new injectors.

Do you know what the newest software is? Are the injectors part of the recall or is it something that replaced after repeated issues?

Not off the top of my head, sorry. Injectors are part of the recall, but don't get replaced automatically. Shop has to check the serial number on each one, some series of #'s get replaced, period, others are tested and reinstalled if they pass the test.

When I got the recall done several months ago, I got a new pump (#3 counting the original one), 4 new injectors, and a reprogram to latest level.

Fuel pump optimism

If I bought a 330i one or two months from now is there a chance the fuel pump problem would no longer exist ?

Sure. There is also a chance that the problem will still exist. Nobody knows at this point, especially whether a given car will experience the failure.
