tire pressure light after upgrading wheels

So I recently upgraded from my stock 16" wheels/tires to the OEM 18"s the other day. My car is a 2006, so no TPMS, and not RFT. Shortly after driving with the new wheels for 5 minutes or so, the red tire pressure light comes on. I go back to the mechanic who put my wheels on and get the air pressures rechecked, which all end up being normal. I also tried resetting the tire presure light with the method mentioned in this thread ( http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384430 ) and it didn't work. I know my tires are not losing pressure

1. Whats causing my tire pressure light to go off
2. Is there another way to reset the check control lights

So you don't have tpms but you get a tire pressure low warning? Just curious, how does the car read the low pressure?

Yes you have TPMS. The tech probably never took them out of the old wheels, so your new wheels don't have any senors in them; hence the light.

I think the 2006s have passive TPM. Are they tires a different overall diameter than what you previously had?

If the car was made for the US market then the wheels has sensors in them. Canadian BMWs didn't have TMPS in them. In his case his new wheels dont have any sensors in them so the car is giving him the tire pressure warning.

There is also the possibility that he has FTM, in that case the ABS sensors monitors the difference in rotational speed and will trigger the tire error if the pressure is low or tire is flat. Although if he had FTM he wouldn't be getting the flat tire error.

You should have the Flat Tire Monitor system. I have an 07 e90 335 build date 09/06 you have to got through the BC menu if you dont have i-drive.
