Hello from new guy. Wheels questions.
Just took delivery of a 2011 black 335i convertible.
Wow! I'm a happy guy! I'd like to upgrade the wheels from stock to BBS LM and notice they seem to only be available 18"+. First question - true? Second question - If so, I'd rather keep the oem tires so anyone suggest a wheel with a similar look to the above available in 17"? Third - any reason not to stay with the 17"? Last question - Anyone care to suggest a good source price wise for wheels? |

Linea Corsa makes a good replica, but not sure about 17s. Seems to be much easier to find 18s than 17s. I looked on some of the vendor sites when I was getting some 17 inch winter rims to not much luck. Check the sponsor area for wheels and tires, they always have good deals on here. Just leave a message usually for them to Private Message you a price quote.
Depends what color you are interested in, but here is the thread for one. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=linea+corse

By the way, I have the OEM 18" Style 193s and couldn't be happier with the size and style.

Welcome!
Why bother buying aftermarket wheels in 17"? Doesn't make much sense I would definitely go 18" at least...there are no quality LM reps in 17" |

Please explain why you would advise 18's. Is it appearance or something else? |

I did look at the Linea Corsa and they seem like a real good possibility for me. Do you know if putting on 18's changes anything in terms of performance or function? And what's all the talk about "spacers" |

We don't have winter here in California
Anyhow, what, if anything changes when to go from 17" to 19"? Speedo off? Issues with fenders? Harsher ride? Does the car riding higher effect performance? What? |

-Speedo was off 2 mph in my experience, was going off of GPS calculations. -19's will fit fine in your fenders, as long as you don't go with too aggressive an offset. Depending on what wheels you decide on the vendors can elaborate, but you're really not limited all that much. -My ride was much softer, only because I came from Runflats. However, you'll lose some of that initial turn-in grip that you get with a smaller wheel/stiffer sidewall. |

To answer your questions: 1. 17" LM reps are trash - don't bother. 2. on an e93, especially in CA you need to be on 18's at least, but 19's really set the car off right. 3. With a 19" setup, there is potential to run the fenders if you dont have the correct tire size and offset for the look you are trying to achieve, if you are comfortable with rolling your fenders (a very common practice in the BMW crowd) 4. the ride quality will be a little firmer, but I daily drive all over the place (actually just went to San Rafael from the 805) and its still very comfortable. Suspension is a key element to ride comfort, you can be on 20" rims and still have a good ride depending on your suspension setup. 5. with any wheel upgrade, I advise putting new suspension of some kind in the car (springs and shocks/ coilovers...) depending on your budget. This will lower the car making it more responsive, and also give a clean look to compliment your new rims. If you like the BBS LM look, I carry the Varrstoen 1.1 which offers very nice offsets for a flush fit and is very strong. I run Varrstoens on my personal car Let me know if you have any questions on a setup, tire sizes, drop rates.. |

Authentic BBS LMs are only available in the 18, 19, and 20 inch sizes for your 335i. If you're looking to keep the car somewhat close to stock spec, I would recommend that you go with the 18" choice as it maintains a perfect balance between performance and looks.
The setup that you would run with the BBS LM is the 18x8.5 ET30 with a 225/40/18 in the front and the 18x9.5 ET34 with a 255/35/18 in the rear which will work perfectly without any rubbing issues. I'll go ahead and shoot you over a PM with more details! - Alan |
