Octane Economics

I fill up about 15 gallons a week at $3.50/Gallon of 91 octane. Goal is to make minimum 350 whp on a stock car. Not settling for any less power than this so therefore, TT, JB1, AA Xede, RD sport are out of the question since none make this power on a bone stock car.

With V2.0, you can run 91 octane and achieve 350whp.
So that's 16 gallons x 3.50 = $56 per week.

With JB2R, one would have to use 8 gallons of 91octane @ $3.50 and 100 octane averages around $7/gallon to make 95.5 octane. This equals $84.0 per week.

After one year, the gas bill would be $2912 for Procede V2 and $4,368 for JB2R. A $1,456 annual savings....

Although at $1500, The Procede is still the BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK (If your definition of BANG is 350-400whp range).

Hmm I'd suggest downpipes and the hot pill, could get you over 350rw on 91 octane. Over 5 years you'd save $21,840 less the cost of the DP..

Why become emissions/environment unfriendly (downpipes) when you can just run a v2, 91-93oct and make 350-360whp. Not to mention the potential for a $5000 fine for running catless

Shiv,

You are wrong.

The penalty is $25,000 per Section 203 of the Clean Air Act for anywhere in the country. California, specifically, can confiscate your vehicle. Doh!

Who said anything about catless?

PS, What is the carb number on the procede again? And approval for that lean cruise mode?

The popular way is by using your laptop to raise all the user TQ values from the default of 90% to 100%. This will bring power from 350-360whp to 400whp assuming you have a cat-back and a free flow intake (cone filters). With the stock airbox and filter, it's tough to make more than 365whp due to intake restrictions.

Rule of thumb:

For 91oct, keep user TQ values between 90-94% 350-375whp
For 93oct, keep user TQ values between 90-95% 350-380whp
For 100oct, you can set everything to 100% 390-400whp

Well lets see if this is a fair comparison. Hopefully I will run my JB2R on an otherwise stock car against a V2.0 car with 91 Octane. Lets see if the 350+ HP of the V2.0 on 91 octane easily beats my JB2R on 95.5 octane. In fact, bring your V2.0 on 91 octane to Fontana on Jan 5, and lets see how they really compare.

good call... any opinion on ware/tear for a 96octane jsb2r car vs. a 91 octane v2 car...?

Well, honestly, as hard as I drive, I think it is good that I run the 91 octane regular mode most of the time. Its not like I have any problems on the streets at all. But when I go to the track, I simply put in about $10 of high octane, and flip the switch. I think in the long run, this will be much easier on the car as far as longevity is concerned.

Both JB2R and V2 can easily generate the same boost so I would assume similar wear and tear.

Warren, the v2 on 91 octane on default setting won't "easily" beat the JB2R on 96 Octane.
What gave you that idea?
The v2 on 91 Octane makes about 340-350 rwhp, just what the JB2R does on 96 octane. They should be very equal.

Now the v2 on 91 Octane with settings at 92% might give the v2 a slight advantage.
And the v2 on 93 Octane with settings of 94% should pull the JB2R on 96 Octane.
The v2 on 96 Octane with settings at 97% settings should easily beat the JB2R on 96 Octane.

I should have mine shipped out early next week according to Calvin and Shiv

Don't you need a lot more than $10 worth of high octane in your tank to flip the switch to the JB2"R" map. Unless of course you only have about 1.5 gallons of 91 left in your tank at the time??

FWIW, a customer in florida running an otherwise bone stock 6AT went to the Moroso tonight with v2 and was running 111.Xmph trap speeds. On 93oct.

Not bad considering Moroso is supposedly not great for traction, AND it was probably pretty warm.
How much experience did he have too?

I would suspect someone could do a bit better than that especially on 93 Octane, and if conditions and track were better.

My bad, I meant to say $10 over the cost of not running high octane. It is essentially $3/gallon more for the high octane. So 3 gallons of regular 91, and 3 gallons of 100 octane, and your net increase is under $10 for your track event. Which I feel is not bad at all. For most everyday driving, the high torque and outputs at low RPMs etc will probably have a more negative effect on the trans, drivetrain, economy, etc...than a tune that more closely mimics the stock power curve, (such as the JB2R on the 91 octane setting). It will be great to see both of our otherwise stock cars running at the track with the V2 and JB2R. Are you thinking of of going to Fontana Jan 5th? Does anyone know what is coming up at Famosa?
