335 with emmisions warning light
Hi,
I have a less than 12 month old 335i m sport and I now have an adverse emissions warning light. It’s booked in for investigation tomorrow, anyone else had this I did a search but found nothing? The car has less than 12,000 miles on it. |

ask them what the codes pulled were, that should help us diagnose the fault for you.

Maybe its transformed itself to a "d" and now thinks its emissions are too clean....for a diesel that is....

diesel 335 is cleaner than a petrol one, just park two next to each other and look at the pipes!

Just got a call, they said the light had gone out when they came to look at it, but there was a lean mix fault not present logged?
Guess i will just have to take it back and see what happens. |

Sounds like where the stealer removes the bulb for the light - or in this case deactivate the message so it doesn't come back again!

"not Preset Logged"
Means that the ECU is storing the error code but it's no longer a problem... Lean running can be due to loads of things, Didn't mess around with the air filter or anything did you ? I.e. clean it ? |

Nope, never get my hands dirty. always on the good fuel as well not sure if that gets involved at all. Will have to wait and see. I don't get back to collect it till the weekend.

hmm. strange.
I wouldn't be overly concerned the ECU can detect knock VERY quickly and will always retard sharpish, just interesting what might have caused the symptom ? SJ |

does the ECU advance times if good fuel is used? if so is it possible that a bad batch of fuel allowed a little knock to occur at which time it flagged the warning after several tanks of better fuel. He’s the odd thing. The light stayed on from Saturday night all through Sunday and Monday not that I drove the car other than to the dealer Tuesday morning.
They then took a look on Tuesday and said that the light had extinguished. This is all on the same tank of fuel. |

Well yes the ecu constantly tries to cycle the ignition forward "advances" a little tests for knock "advances" again and so on so on.
I'm not 100% sure what code would be thrown on a Knock situation though. I would bet there are several codes that could be thrown by different sensors. SJ |
