Loss of power
Dinan stage 2 installed about 8 months ago, big difference noted. About a month later started getting alot of black residue mess on rear of car followed by long starts and rough idling. Then started felling under load a pulsing while accelerating. About a week ago it started to pulse like it has been but stopped and instantly felt way down on power, less than stock-no fault codes or errors though. Took it to dealer and they couldn't find anything. Called a local shop and they said it may be a bad cam sensor.
Any thought or help would be appreciated. I have a 2008 335i N54 motor only mod is Dinan S2. Thanks |

There's gotta be codes?
More than likely something misfire associated (plugs, coils, injectors, in need of valve cleaning) or the HPFP has shit the bed |

Dealer said no codes but did clean a bunch of carbon off valves, still no difference. They refused to plug it in and do any active diagnoses. They did agree to fix any problems that a near by shop thinks they can find. They also rotated the injectors. I have been flooring the car lately and getting results of half throttle from before.

I have gone to 3 shops and they all tell me if there is anything out of normal I would have fault codes. It feels like I am down on boost as well.

Codes are the only way to tell at this point. Check for a boost leak at the FMIC and charge pipe, thats my best guess. Although you would get an underboost code if it was that...
If you dont know what those are, pay a shop who does. Codes codes codes....

The dealership said they didn't want to reflash it, said it wasn't the problem. They did clean intake valves and told me plugs were good. I have 59,500 miles on it.
I think I am going to try a dyno and see if the numbers are where they should be. |

On a 100% STOCK car the plug change interval is 45K miles, the dealership should've replaced them under covered maintenance anyway.

Your guess is as good as mine, but if the plugs in fact DO have 60k on them, id replace them ASAP

I don't think plugs are the issue because he says he's not getting codes. If the misfires are severe enough to feel constantly he would be getting multiple cylinder misfire codes. The rough starts and(what i'm assuming) to be excessive fueling points right at an injector. The fact that he's not getting any codes is puzzling... Datalogs would be helpful here but not likely given he's running Dinan.

And yeah, i agree. But one thing you have to consider is that not all misfires are created equal. Before i replaced my plugs i would have heavy stuttering and then a misfire, but no codes at all. It pissed me off to no end. I would get a SES/limp mode and the Procede would pick up absolutely no codes. It was only until a really violent misfire occured that i got a cylinder 5 misfire. I replaced the plugs and the misfires stopped for a month or two, until i kept getting misfires (with codes this time) on ONLY cylinder 5. Coilpack fixed that real good As far as the rough starts , in my experience, rough starts are like a cold. They happen for a couple weeks and then the next week the car starts up no problem every time. My car is confusing lol
