You are operating under a mis-conception: removing the fuse for the xDrive positioning motor will not turn it into a RWD car; it only fixes the front/rear torque apportionment. You have to remove the front driveshaft to convert to rwd.

It locks the center diff. You need to read a LOT more before doing this. There's a thread on this somewhere, but I'm not willing to take the time to find it for you. Check bimmerfest and bimmerforums, too. |

I have been driving without my front driveshaft for 6+ months no issues!

I removed fuses 82 and 79 and this allows all the gauges to work and my jb4 tuner to stay enabled. There is absolutely no power given to the front axle. I welded my rear diff so this makes the car very drift happy. I couldn't be happier!
Originally I pulled my front drive shaft but upon any fun amount of wheel spin I would get a 4x4 light and it would close my throttle. No drifts or burn outs that way without maybe trading ecus with a rwd? |

Just wanted to follow up on this guys. I was wrong about the front wheels receiving no power. I lifted my car on a hoist today and took off in 1st and the front wheels were still receiving power. I then put the fuses back in and took the car up to 170kph (supposively it becomes rwd at this point) and pulled the fuses at 170kph and that didnt change anything.
It drifts and slides and burns out like a rwd, but the fronts are getting SOME power which makes me think this will probably cause excessive wear on the transfer case clutches and thus it is a bad thing. Even if you pull the front shaft, the output from the TC is spinning, which means there is some level of interference from the clutches in the TC. |
