Do 328xi and 335xi have the same suspension elements springs shocks double pivot etc? After driving a 335xi for a year I now drive a 328xi. The 328xi just seems to handle a bit looser and with less control than the 335xi. I thought the 335xi had a soft suspension but the 328xi feels even softer. The only difference that I know is my 328xi has 16" 205 and the 335xi had 17" 225...not sure if this can have such a pronounced effect. If it does I need to get some rims/low profile tires asap.

I'm thinking not. according to ECS, the same set of coils would properly fit on both a 328xi and 335xi. wider wheels probably add to the grip, but i would credit the 300ft/lbs or torque driving all four wheels. thats my reasoning.

I'd like to know this too as I might be getting an e91 328xi or 335xi.
Theroetically I would think if they had the same suspension, the 328 would have the edge in handling due to a lower weight.

I've driven bolth extensively and personally have not felt a suspension difference, however as JoeyBananaz18 said, wider wheels and summer tires as opposed to all-seasons could contribute to a sportier and tighter ride.

Just test drove an M sport E91 328xi which i am considering getting. A bit different from my E90 M3!! haha. This will be one difficult decision - to trade in my E90 M3 for the E91.

My priorities have changed since i've been married and I need a car i can drive all year and have some cargo space and be more fuel efficient as i drive almost 100 miles every day for work.

I came from an 08 135i to a 2010 e92 328xi. You WILL miss the power, there is no doubt about that. With that being said the 328xi is a very good all around car. I do about 700mi a week and get about 24mpg. Make SURE it has the upgraded audio or don't buy it. I'm telling you the base audio is that bad.

The car handles reasonably well for 8/10ths driving. I have the ZSP with 17" Conti's. I ready to ditch them for some 18" wheels and tires which I think will make a noteable improvement. One of the things I miss about the 135i is the tossable nature of the car. The steering on the 328xi is heavy, combined with the delayed throttle makes it abit slow to change direction. If I had to do it again I would have bought the 335xi. The extra grunt would give the car the extra 2/10ths needed to be perfect. I actually think that the gas mileage would be about the same or better.

Thanks for the insight. I also noticed the steering to be heavy. I was leaning towards the E91 for the added cargo space but i am also considering an E90 335xi. I will have to take a test drive.

It's funny how we get used to power quickly... When I sold my MINI, I had a 323i (2009) as a loaner for a few days and I remember that I kinda liked the torque curve and smooth delivery... Any BMW 6-cylinder is a safe bet!

what if you keep the m3 and get something cheaper? i would deff miss the m3

Is the steering the same on the 335xi as the 328xi? I'm thinking the heavy feeling is attributed to the run flats.

I have a 335xi, and recently had a 328i xdrive as a loaner for several days. The 328 was noticeably softer, leaned more in corners/curves. The upside was that the ride was softer. Both my car and the 328 are non-sport so probably have similar tires.

If the 328 has 16in rims then it DOES NOT have a sports suspension. The sports suspension on the 328 and 335 is exactly the same, as is the non-sports suspension.

As a 328Xi owner with a 335Xi in the garage next to it, I can tell you this...

DO NOT BUY THE 328!

My gas mileage city/hwy combined is exactly the same in both cars. I think a huge part of this problem is due to the fact that you need to put your foot into the 328 a little harder to get it up to speed where as the 335 you don't.

The suspension is stiffer in the 335 (Trust me, it is. I don't care what anyone says, it's definitely a sportier ride. It's more responsive. My 328 has the performance wheel and tire option and it still doesn't handle at all like the 335 does).

The power in the 335 is addicting and you'll be glad that you have it when you want it. Every single time I get in the 328 I love the looks and comfort because it still is a BMW. BUT, every time I press the gas pedal in to pass someone or to get on the highway, I shake my head in disgust. I honestly cannot believe how miserable the performance of that car is stock. My old E46 330Ci would run rings around it (Sometimes I seriously wonder why the hell I got rid of my E46).


Trust me, if you're gonna get a 3 series that isn't an M and you can afford it, get the 335. You'll be glad you did.
