325D rattley when low fuel

Not having had much time to get to the fuel station yesterday and today, I found that once the fuel was down to 70 miles left (according to the ECU that is) the engine became noticeably more rattley. Once I did get to the fuel pump and filled right up it was much quieter again.

Any thoughts on this, in theory the engine should not make any more or less noise regardless of fuel level. The pump should ensure the fuel pressure in constant however much fuel is in the tank.

Another possible BMW diesel mistery perhaps.

Cheers

mm... i don't have this, and sometimes take it down to 20 or 30 miles remaining

i would say when it starts getting towards sub 100mls remaining, just get ready to drop it by the dealer one weekend. if it's as noticeable as you make out should be straight forard to sort
