Pinion seal leaking, dealer recommends not to replace

I have a 07 335i that I just purchased the CPO has a couple months left so I am trying to get all the small issues fixed before it runs out. I had my car in to my local dealer fixing some issues. I saw that the pinion seal was leaking on the diff. It is not dripping but the front of the diff is wet. My SA confirmed that it is leaking but recommended not to replace it. His reasoning was that the shop foreman said that many times after a pinion seal repair in about a year the car will come back with damaged diff gears?? Any advice on where to take this from here? Have them replace it? Go to a new dealer? Any input would be great.

Ideally, have them replace the pinion seal and everything that can be affected by it if that's what they say. You should ask why would the pinion seal repair cause the cars to be prone to damaged diff gears.

I plan on going to talk to the tech tomorrow. I understand that if the nut is not torqued correctly it will lead to damage but I assumed the shop foreman could complete this task. It is as simple as marking the old nut before removal or correctly torqing the nut.

Lets say hypothetically they are right, what is their warranty on repair work? 90 days? 1 year?

Sounds like the dummy who is putting the pinion seal in, is an idiot. They are no issue to replace when done CORRECTLY

I will ask about a warranty. Bigugly I feel the same the prob is it is their top guy the shop foreman with 20+ years experience according to the SA. Next dealer is almost 2 hours away maybe I will have to make the trip.

Pinions need to be torqued off and on to make sure the preload on the front bearings are correct.
