Is anyone willing to write a DIY for dummies for this? I'm just starting with some basic coding and going into NETTODAT file seems a bit scary... I'd really like 5 blinks on our 2008 and 2012 3ers

It's in every module. Just look in your 'work' folder.

I actually meant which file do I need to get the NETTODAT file from to change the blink count.

edit- went out to try and figure it out. I think I found where to change it here is the line from my NETTODAT

1 2 PARAMETER NAME
PARAMETER VALUE

* B 00340300,0010,F1,00,00,28,0F,28,0F,28,0F,00,00,00,00,0E,00,00
* B 00340300,0010,F1,00,00,28,07,28,0F,28,0F,00,00,00,00,0E,00,00

Bottom one is 1 blink top is 3 so would I change it to the following for 4 blinks?

B 00340300,0010,F1,00,00,28,13,28,0F,28,0F,00,00,00,00,0E,00,00

After I edit the NETTODAT file what do I do with it? Thanks in advance

hey guys,
i have a few questions, if you could possibly help me out it would be much appreciated.
first let me make sure that i am even taking the correct steps to change the blink count. (i have '06 E90 330i) so when changing all the other vehicle options that ive chaged (i.e. digital speedometer and windows close with fob), ive done so within the CAS ecu and then whatever module, but now to change the blink count we do so within the NFRM ecu instead of the CAS? and then from there i basically read the FRM module once with 1 blink set and once with 3 blink set. then compared the nettodat.trc files and located the one value that changed and then changed it to the 6 blink value (which from what i got reading this whole thread and the one on ********* for same topic, i think it should be '1B') and saved as NETTODAT.MAN in the work folder. and then providing that everything i just explained is correct (please let me know what i did wrong so far, if anything), this is were i got the error. i got the error right after i selected the 'basic function' 'coapiCodeSgNettoData'. the error just said "Fehler Beim Einlesen Der Nettodataliste" which basically translates to 'failed to read the nettodat file'. any idea whats going on, or what i did wrong? any input would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
dluke

blink count

hey all,
so i still haven't figured out why my NCS is unable to read the nettodat file when trying to change the blink count. but if anyone else is having trouble with changing this feature via the nettodat method, i was able to successfully change my turn signal blink count to 6 blinks through a different method. although same as with the nettodat method, changing it within the idrive afterwards will erase it, but it will stay otherwise. also just incase, i did this on my 06 e90 330i, whether or not it will work in the same manor on other years/models i have no idea. so anyways what i ended up doing was editing the daten file for the module containing the blink count (btw many hours of research went into this.. didnt just go in and start changing the daten file blindly). for me the daten file i needed to change was FRMFA.C11. first disassembled the file with NCS Dummy (Thanks to Revtor for creating an amazing program). then located the function MIND_ANZ_ZYKL_TIPP_BLK. (the disassembled file will look something like the attached pic) then just changed the highlighted field on the attached pic from '01' to '06' for six blinks. then re-assembled the file with NCS Dummy. **before you replace the original daten file with the new edited one you will want to get an FSW TRC file with the triple blink turned off. then create a PSW MAN with that trace file without changing anything. now replace the original daten file with the edited one and then just code the unedited .MAN file to the car. now after the coding is done just double check that your triple turn signal is turned off and turn your car off, then turn the car back on and tap your blinker!
-any questions or need me to explain anything or explain why this works just PM me.
-btw thanks to everyone that paved the way for us new coders

haha ya.. when i first bought the car this was the first thing that i wondered about being able to change, and ultimately what got me into coding. and then it was the last coding mod i had left to figure out.. so yes i was pretty determined.. plus once i start something and get stuck, i cant rest until i find a solution.

Judging by the discussion you guys are having and how it's making my head hurt just reading it, I would have to say that sentence seems to be very dependent upon the person reading it.

The parameter needs to be custom added with the data being the number of blinks you want (I used 4). From there you can export the trace data as a NETTODAT.MAN file and write it back to the module using the job coapiCodeSgByNettoData. It's all explained in the NCSdummy thread "Taking the expert out of NCS expert".

Good luck!

You need to scan the NETTODAT file once with the triple blink disabled within the gauge cluster (or idrive) and once again with it enabled. Then use beyond compare to scan the two NETTODAT files and find the value that has changed. That value is the HEX value you need to modify to increase the blink count.

Once you've changed it from XX to 37 (or whatever), save the NETTODAT file as NETTODAT.MAN and recode the car using the codeNETTODAT command.

Hope this helps.
I think I got there based on the 2 quoted posts, although I will mention that no where in this thread (unless I missed it) is there a mention of which module you should be reading to get the correct NETTODAT.TRC file in order to change the blink count. srwatters' post mentioning the option "MIND_ANZ_ZYKL_TIPP_BLK" was the key I needed to get there. I found that option in the NFRM module. And after going through the process of setting the blink count to 1 and then 3 and using the "beyond compare" program to compare the 2 nettodat trace files, Blink set to 1 = 0x04 where Blink count set to 3 = 0x0C. Makes perfect sense based on srwatters conjecture in post #13 of this thread. Now I just have to do the deed and see if it works.
