Just make sure your photos are clear and the paperwork is easy to follow (they can be thick bastards)
They can't be held responsible for damage they are unaware of, but I can't believe that hasn't been reported.

I also recently hit a massive pothole in the dark. ruined my nrft winter conti but wheel was ok. had to rely on AA for recovery and get dropped a the garage. Got my gf's car and went back the next day to measure the thing......nearly 4 inches deep! Another claim getting sent the way of Aberdeen City council

I've complained about a few holes near where I stay and when they do fix them it only is a cheap temporary repair.

You may find its the owner of the covers that you have to claim from rathe than the council i.e. BT or the Water Board etc....

Not good though but it's on the increase as the roads in the UK get worse bu wheels on cars get bigger!

Standard bmw 19" fitments are just over 75mm.

255/30x19 works out to be 76.5mm.

The claim was passed on to Scottish Water's insurance company who have been really slow.

I got a letter through the door today to confirm how old the wheel and tyre were. Not how much tread etc.

The letter highlights that the items are subject to wear and tear and will be taken into consideration if a settlement is offered.

How can you work out wear and tear on a wheel? Surely a wheel should last the lifetime of a car?

Last year down here in Somerset, claiming for damaged caused by awfully laid roads/potholes was easy as pie. Ring them up, they send you a claims form assuming you have pictures its easy.

There was what can only be described as a MAHOOSIVE pothole along my lane and it wasn't causing any trouble but I gave them a call and they came and filled it, with reasonable quality the very next day!

Being polite gets you along way, unlike that twerp of a user up there ^^^^

Unlucky mate. I generally drive with my eyes open and have hit a few and narrowly missed dozens of large potholes. Fortunately no damage thus far - partly why I've gone back to 18" from 19" wheels. Especially at night at 60mph + even with xenons, you cant dodge the bloody things, or worse, there are clusters of holes that would require a Scandinavian-flick to avoid.

Don't know if anyone on here has ever driven on the A43 toward J10 of the M40, but the inside lane (for a couple of miles) is absolutely riddled with big holes. I makes me wince if I'm in my wife's Avensis with 16" wheels. In the 330 I stick to the outside lane - forcing me to keep up with the traffic [officer]

We're they referring to the wear and tear of your wheel or the manhole cover and frame? I can understand the manhole cover and frame failing over time with the weather and traffic but like you say your wheel and tyre should be constant through out its life!

I live about 2 miles from J10 of the M40 and the A43 coming back from MK is a joke as you said. Even the 800 yard stretch between the roundabouts before you get onto the M40 is rutted beyond belief.

I'd recommend the Contisport Contact 5p EXTREMELY highly - I have been staggered by how good the tyre is.

But appearently the NEW F1 is very good too. I had experience with the original assymetric and wasn't much impressed.

Down our way Kwik fit are offering 25% off the CSC5P's at the moment. Might be food for thought.


(ps, no - I don't work for Continental tyres either. Sigh.)

I recently switched to a set of F1 Aysm 2's and so far am very impressed.
Especially in the wet.
Driving back at night in the pouring rain, I would hesitate to go 50-60 on the old tyres.
On the F1's, it feels rock steady at 70+

Where do you see Kwik Fit's 25% offer?

There online prices aren't too far off and a 25% discount would make them cheapest.

ATS were advertising 33% off Michelin tyres, but not discounted from online prices. It was only there extortionate in store price.

There is usually only a few quid between the Conti 5p and the Goodyear F1 2 tyres.

Best I can see so far is at www.tyresavings.com

Fitted prices are £172 and £223 for the Contis and £174 and £216 for the Goodyears.

That saves about £40 over Blackcircles.

Pneus are £5-10 cheaper per tyre but obviously you then have to pay a third party to fit the tyres.
