[Judge Dredd]

I have wanted one of these since I got my car, and it's about time I get it. However, this will be my first exhaust installation and I'd like to know what to do since I suspect it won't come with instructions.

What are the steps to installing an Eisenmann race exhaust (2x76mm) on a 330i?

I have seen some people say I'll have to cut something, but I'm not really sure about that.

Based on this picture:



Do I have to cut the pipe to remove the stock muffler, and then stick the remaining bit into the port in the picture and clamp it down?

Is it worth the money to have my local shop do it? I really would rather do it myself and learn than pass the task onto someone else.

You'll have to have the stock muffler cut off and then have that welded in its place. Personally what I would do is have the muffler shop cut the whole shebang off from the resonator back. Have them bend a 2 1/2 inch pipe into a less flow restrictive bend and then have them blow up the or expand the last inch of the pipe to have it fit over the top of the pipe on the back of the eisenmann, don't even use the clamp and have it welded. Then I would have them take the it and put it back on the hangers, have the pipe rewelded to the resonator, pay your bill and call it a day haha. Muffler shop I go to would do it for 50 bucks haha

That sounds like a lot of work for a muffler.

I mean that's just me haha. Depends what you wanna do. If you looking from the resonator back to muffler it is bent a couple times so it is tucked up under as much as possible. The bends from the resonator back is actually quite a few. I'm weird like that and don't like it so I'd cut mine off and do what I said, but like I said before that is just me. If you just want the old muffler chopped off then they would cut the stock one off and clamp up your eisenmann.. although personally I'd have mine welded

Yep, I saw that and a few others. However, none of the pictures anywhere show a similar port on the back of the muffler. On the PE, it looks like there is a small section of pipe where the cut portion and the PE and slide into and over each other nicely and then clamp. On the Eisenmann in the picture I posted, it's just a hole and I'm not sure how that works. I'm not going to be doing any welding.

Here is what I mean. On the PE, there is a bit of piping, on the Eisenmann, there isn't. They're made for same car so what the hell?

The BMW PE comes with a muffler and a new midpipe to delete the resonator. The Eisenman exhaust you are looking at comes with a muffler only. I hope that makes sense...

so in essence you would cut your muffler off and weld the new muffler where the previous muffler was

It makes sense but I'm not sure it's completely accurate. I've seen numerous posts of people mounting just the Perf. muffler.

I also really don't want to weld anything. I find it quite hard to believe (not trying to call anyone a liar) that this is the first time anyone has ever mentioned welding an Eisenmann exhaust. Eisenmann exhausts are usually built to be completely up to OEM spec and only bolt-on. What's the change here?

In some cases, but in this case, you are on the receiving end of a good amount of speculation. Calling the manufacturer will get you the direct yes or no answer that it seems you want.

Absolutely, although I don't really understand why it's speculation. I was under the impression that Eisenmann is the preferred exhaust for BMWs next to BMW's PEs and the ridiculously expensive Akrapovic exhausts.

Any muffler shop can do it... it's a simple cut and weld...

There's no getting around setting up this muffler without welding. I've had this muffler for almost 3 years and it's 7 years old and sold it. Welding was never a problem. A muffler is a muffler, its metal, cut and weld. I've had 5 full exhaust set ups in 3 years, no problems.

Maybe I'll just go with the PE LOL. I can't be bothered to have it welded.

You could always buy a BMW clamp as used on the PE and fix it that way. The Eisenmann box looks virtually identical to the PE...

I would much rather do that, however, based on the pictures, it doesn't seem that there is anything to clamp onto, unless I'm misunderstanding you...
