getting the iDrive screen to work with the Kendwood head unit wasn't a success. Even if it did work, the images would be distorted by the 2" x 9" display (exaggerating). So, I decided to mount an Alpine TMS-S370 6.5" monitor in it's place. To do this, i had to enlarge the cutout height and reduce the width of the iDrive trim panel to fit the new screen. Reason for all this is simple. Needed something in place of the blank iDrive screen, and the Kenwood has video out, so why the hell not? XM/USB/Tuner...whatever on the Kenwood down below, and Navigation on the top screen (or whatever other combo)...

Well...here are some preliminary pictures. And don't worry, I didn't forget about my new kick panels for the 10" drivers. i havent started those yet. there will be updates to that thread soon. I just wanted to do this first.

looks good who did the double din install ? Do you have any errors and does your steering wheel controls work?

Don Amann of Unexpected Creations (mypearltpi@aol.com) did the install. He is in Edison, NJ and is a great guy to deal with.

I did not hook up steering wheel controls, but it is possible to do so. I have issues with having iDrive disconnected. The issues are no SOS, and not being able to reset TPMS. Do I care about it? Not really. I have that (!) on the dash from TPMS and it doesn't bug me. I believe it is possible to have someone with Autologic code TPMS off and then I'd have no errors.

You can choose to have your factory head unit re-located to the trunk if you don't want to deal with errors (many have had this done and if you do a search you will see the threads).

Although personally, I'm more of a Pioneer head unit kind of guy; however, while their top of the line model has video out, I'm not sure if it would work like this. if my car didn't come with Nav, I would highly consider this.
